I couldn't have said it better myself.
But we want to use it where WE want to use it.
I started a thread called gold lock. VERY SIMPLE.
By default nothing changes. WE would have the OPTION to lock gold. So spending it would have to bring up a window saying to go unlock gold first. This would solve the problem across the entire game. Without making it difficult for someone who wants easy access to gold. (Say speeding up crops in a mission.)
But no.
Rather than fix a problem that has angered people over and over again, they keep on adding more and more gold only CRAP!!!!! POP UPS galore. Library is all gold. I don't even look. The tower of decor. What the hell is that? Aside from ugly.
And bugs with all of this. One of my coop members is slowly selling off everything. She is planning on leaving and only sticking around long enough to donate her stuff. That must have taken her at least a year to build up.
Well fine.
I have a simple gold lock of my own. I simply do NOT pick up my CC.
Oh... there is another game that GG already said they will no longer be supporting. That's fine since it also means no idiotic buggy updates. And though it is a lot more up front when you have to spend real cash, I managed to click something there too and POOF! Several thousand in game cash, (MY cash) GONE.
I contacted support hoping beyond hope they might see the accident and perhaps issue a voucher. They still have the money. But it's going on two weeks and still not even the common courtesy of an answer. NOTHING.
They took the money nano seconds after I gave them my order. But can't be bothered to reply when a mistake happens?
Yea... gold lock. CC is put away. Any gold I get in this game will come FROM the game. Or not at all.
Treat your PAYING CUSTOMERS BETTER!!!! Or lose them.
Jeff wants me to be happy and I think I will be throwing his money away to invest it in this game. I think I will buy some yarn and make something wonderful for my family--they will appreciate my efforts far more than anyone here will.
Would it be possible to put a check box in the settings area of the game that would allow for a confirmation on gold purchases? That way people who have children who are playing can keep them from spending hard earned money on something with a careless click during a temper tantrum? For example, my 3 year old threw a toy the other day, which hit the mouse, causing it to click and as a result he spent 2000 gold with that simple action on an when that click purchsed the windmill I was looking at.
I would love to have a simple safe guard like that in place for those of us that want it. If it want to spend money on something, that extra click is not going to stop me.
Additionally, having it in the settings or options area would allow those of us who WANT a safe guard, to put one in place, and it would keep those who don't need it free of the "extra hassle and psycological turn off" mentioned by Latten.
Thank you for considering this possible solution.
I would be interested in seeing where this feedback came from. I play many online games with different types of gold/real money safeguards such as re-password entry; confirmation pop ups, etc. It has never once stopped me from buying and spending gold. However; I no longer buy any gold on GGS. In BF I have not accidentally spent gold "yet" but was disappointed when I bought a crowbar to open the box and it didn't say anywhere it was one time use I believed I was buying a crowbar (I had a similar issue in another GGS game as well). I realized then the lack of safeguards/information provided was skewed toward GGS benefits. This idea that players will stop using gold is contradictory when people stop buying gold all together because of the current mechanics.
I agree totally with you. I do not buy gold, butt i am trying to save it. And accidents do happen. And all my savings is gone... Hate it
Sure, but by not having a gold lock, the response is that people are not (intentionally) using their gold, and then when they do use their gold accidentally, it makes them angry. So the lack of a gold lock is resulting in people NOT actually happily using their gold, or finding their gold use fun.
I do understand that you want people to spend gold though, and that you don't want them to be annoyed when they do it. But giving people peace of mind that they're not doing it stupidly or accidentally when they use their gold would surely increase their satisfaction, which overall would make the players happier overall since they won't see gold (or clicking things) as risky.
Here's a potential compromise: for small amounts of gold, say, up to 500 or something, there is no gold lock. Beyond that, impose an (optional) gold lock.
Doing so would provide protection for people who might be at risk of misclicking and losing large amounts of gold. For smaller amounts, the effect of gold loss is not so great, so perhaps that's why it's not necessary. And maybe then people will learn to click more carefully, but without being severely punished for their errors. But for someone to lose say, 2000 gold because their child threw a toy that hit the mouse button (or whatever the example above was) can be extremely frustrating. And it seems pretty clear that the option of the gold lock would not be unwelcome from the BF community.
I'm sure with the large amounts of support tickets that misclicking has generated, you would easily be able to determine what the appropriate level for gold locking would be.
Plus, making the gold lock optional will mean that those who don't think they need it and are find throwing gold around like candy are still free to do so.
Great suggestion
Very well put amaprincess1, unfortunately this is a standard response from all European game developers. It is not just this game that has these issues and eventually they will get so many people/players so offside that they will stop spending their "hard earned" all together. They won't change, they never do. These developers may be educated enough to write game codes but they don't understand basic customer satisfaction. If the developers made things a bit cheaper and based more on the gamers having fun they would get a much larger cash turnover and a huge customer base. But then some people are to smart to learn!! Greed is the biggest problem.
