The Gourmet Farm
I'll start by linking a picture posted by Griffith (thank you) of the new info as it appears in-game.
The new and improved gourmet farm, then, appears to be re-skin of the main farm, with the addition of a different sort of bakery.
The cabin, housing, water tower, workshop, goat stables, fence, gate, and decorations will remain as they are. All of the other production and processing facilities will be removed, and the new replacement facilities must be built.
So we will have:
Gardens to produce crops, at least some of which may be milled into animal feed.
3 types of animal stables:
- Ducks producing eggs
- Goats producing milk
- Donkeys (probably similar to pigs)
A water mill, silo, and composter
2 types of orchards: almond and peach
A bit of information about the orchards has been provided here.
A bakery - which presumably uses ingredients produced on the farm to produce finished goods for sale.
Latten has addressed some of the questions that have arisen here.
No specific date has been given for the actual implementation of these changes, but CM Nafaru indicates we will probably see them in late March.
Other things we know:
1. Players will be reimbursed for the farmdollar cost of any building (or facility) removed from the game and given a week of halved build times to assist in building the new facilities. Any gold used to speed build is likely forfeited, as the player received the benefit of the speedy build at the time the gold was spent.
2. Flower shop recipes will also be changed so that products no longer available from the gourmet farm will no longer be required for any flower shop production.
3. Any research completed for the gourmet farm will be exchanged for an equivalent new research if possible; otherwise refunds of the costs will be given.
4. There will be architect levels for buildings on the gourmet farm.
5. Existing almond orchards and gardens will be removed and need to be rebuilt from scratch.
6. There are currently no plans to make changes of this magnitude on the flower farm.
And here are some additional questions:
1. Will the new bakery be present on the farm, as was the restaurant starting out, or will we need to build it as well?
2. Will both the main farm windmill and gourmet farm watermill be able to produce all kinds of feeds, or will they only be able to produce feeds for their respective farms?
3. Will both silos and composters produce the same types of fertilizer and humus that may be used on either the main or gourmet farms - or will they be different products?
4. Is there any way that you could show us the new build menu, bakery recipes, and flower farm recipes? I think most of us would like to make optimal use of the 7 days of reduced build times, and it would allow us to do some planning, just as we have always had time to plan builds.
Steffi has indicated that they may share more details as the implementation draws near. I expect they are still testing, balancing, and polishing the new software.
I will try to keep this updated as more information becomes available.

How & when will the time start for the gourmet farm that we will get reimbursed for building time?
Please do not start that until next week or till this event is over, because that is really unfair to us that you start an event, plan/do maintenance/server updates/upgrades, and then give us a time line to work on productions/building on the gourmet farm with all of the issues that are going on/ongoing. It has been almost 6 hours (12:50pm eastern time) and I still have not been able to log in or get on the game server.
Thanks for this post again EricaJ.
For this type of upgrade, I would expect the conversion process to go something like this:
1. Take server down for maintenance.
2. Backup the existing databases.
3. Create the new database that will support the new gourmet farm.
4. Run a conversion program that will read the records of all of the existing gourmet farms and convert and write them into the new format. This conversion process would add the appropriate farmdollars to the account of any player whose buildings were removed and negotiate and translate all of the other changes required.
5. Deploy the new software, including changes to the flower farm recipes.
6. Bring the server back online - and, at that time, set the timer for 7 days of reduced build times on the gourmet farm.
Due to the complexity of this sort of upgrade, I would expect the downtime to be significantly longer than usual. Also, I expect they will update the servers one at a time rather than all at once - rather like they did with the new environments.
But to directly answer your question - I would expect the timer for 7 days of shorter build times to start when the update is complete.
Since this update will be much more complex and likely require longer downtime than most, I would hope they would do them at a time when no long term events are running.
You're welcome.
"Hey everyone, the update has been postponed to wednesday to iron out all bugs that might have sneaked in"
The only part of this in today's update is the information about the coming changes.
Since the gourmet farm will be a lot more like the main farm, will we be able to use it to do some of the events as well, for example finding breadcrumbs in the gardens and orchards, etc.
I would be really surprised if they did that - and they would likely rebalance everything to compensate. The events are designed to produce those items we collect at some specific rate. I would guess that if, for example, the gourmet farm gardens yielded breadcrumbs, then the main farm fields would yield fewer of them to compensate - or they would adjust the quantity required.
It is, I think, both an art and science to get everything balanced.
If a CM happens along, maybe we'll get some more answers from them.
I do hope they add some speedier production time to the dairy - it is presently too slow to process all the products that one needs for marzipan ice cream (at night), goats cheese and butter for apple pie. The production time in the dairy is always longer than the using up time and you can't set it for more than 3.50 hours for doing something at night or when away in the day.
Much appreciated.
Once the updated gourmet farm is implemented, there will be no dairy or restaurant. The only buildings that remain are the ones I listed in the first post. It will be very similar to the main farm, but with different animals (ducks, goats, donkeys) and orchards (almond and peach).
All new recipes for the new version of the bakery (I called it bakery v2) and also some different concoctions at the flower farm. For example, assuming we will no longer be producing pasta or cream on the gourmet farm, there will no longer be flower farm arrangements that require them as ingredients.
Anything you built on the gourmet farm with gold - blue-roofed housing, water towers, workshops, decorations - will remain just as they were before.
If you've spent gold to speed up builds or harvests there, you've already received the time savings benefit of that expenditure, so I wouldn't expect GGS to reimburse anyone for that.
ETA:
This isn't just a tweak, but a complete redesign of the function and flow of the gourmet farm. Think of it like having another main farm, but with different crops, animals, orchards - and a bakery to produce some additional finished goods.
Personally, I'm loving the thought of being able to get stuck into the Gourmet farm and build new stuff.
Kat.
programmers will share when they are ready.
Kat.
time to answer some questions, hm?
I'm gonna start out with those EricaJ collected at the beginning of this thread and try to give you as much information as currently possible.
As you might have read in the update discussion thread, some information is still top secret and will be revealed once we get closer to the actual update, which we expect to happen within the next couple of weeks.
No, sorry. Those buildings will be removed and need to be build up again from scratch.
The reason behind that is that the amount of workers, the size, level requirements and dependencies between production facilities will change and hence it is impossible for us to simply replace them.
Same as before, it will have to be rebuilt so no problems arise with recipes and other functionalities.
Shouldn't this be question #3?
Anyways.. this is something we will have to tell you when we're closer to the actual update. We cannot disclose production cycles and details on them yet. Sorry.
Same as before, no information on production cycles and new products can be given just yet.
This is something time will have to tell. For now we are changing the gourmet farm for two main reasons: it was not very attractive for players and the whole flow of the farms did not work out quite as well as we expected it to.
If the rework of the second farm proves to be very effective in both regards, changes to the flower farm might not be necessary at all.. or you might actually wish for changes on the flower farm because the gourmet farm is far better than you imagined.
What is sure right now is that we definitely do not expect to rework the flower farm this year, but as always we will keep an eye on things.
We will definitely disclose some more information soon, so you can do some planning. I cannot promise you will get ALL that information before the update hits, though. We would like to keep some little surprises for the update day.
I hope this answers some of your questions. More information and answers will follow during the next days and weeks.
Have a nice weekend!
- Steffi
Off to update the initial post with new info...
That is quite useful to know; thank you!
The only thing I like is more fertilizer, because I could never make enough for the main farm alone. Otherwise, please reconsider, thank you!
