As for tips, I suggest that you keep an eye on your farms happiness (have lots of decorations) and read through the Tips and Tricks forum for more useful information.

My tip would be to take a stroll through the Questions about the game forum and read some of the replies to different questions posted there. You will learn so much about the game, what not to do and what works best for everyone.
