As Tess said, Rapeseed is a real thing. But it's also commonly known as canola, since rapeseed producers realized that the name of their product wasn't the greatest thing, and then pushed for a new name for the product. (Conspiracy theory time: I read somewhere that the Canadian government was responsible for this change as well, since they grow a LOT of the stuff.) So why shouldn't we do that as well?

That said, it's kind of silly to have a crop we can't talk about in messages, since the name of a crop that won't even pass the word filters at the moment... :P

Commonly known as canola? Perhaps in the US and Canada? I don't think that is true in the Rest of the World and certainly not the UK

I do agree it is silly to have a crop that can't be written about in chat though

I know that Latten refers to "rapture" when he uses to the term "rapeseed"

Why do you think that ?

Commonly known as canola in the US, Canada, parts of Southeast Asia (Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan), and Australia/New Zealand, at the very least.

I agree with Tess and also think if a child asks what rapeseed is that it would make a cool discussion to let them know what it is and educate them on it's uses and what it's other names are and the different countries that the name for it is different.I don't see the issue with the name as it is a commonly used product in alot of places. Why make a big deal out of something that can be easily explained by reading this forum here?I'ts the real name for it so why not use the real name since it makes a product used for cooking :)

Hi there, rapeseed is an actual name of a plant from the mustard family. No offense to/by anyone there!

But indeed it'll be difficult to refer to it during messages because of the filter!

Woah, Canada is part of a conspiracy about... a plant? lol :D
could be that Canada did change the name of it considering Canada is a multi-cultural country and a lot of people complain about a lot of little things around here.

Just look at all of the stereotypes Canada has. Apparently we Canadians live in igloos and eat poutine everyday, and finish every sentence with "eh".... eh?

    LMAO!!! TRULY!!!!

Yeah, Canola comes indeed from Canada. And you are so right... everyone thinks we have no summer here, that it's -137°C on a good day and that the national dish is poutine and maple syrup. As for ending each phrase with "eh", that's the first time I hear that one.

But what the hell... we are Crazy Cannuks!

A fellow resident... I dare not say the name of this country has I do not really like it... not the name but what it stands for... specially under Harper's govt. But let's not get into politics...

Rapeseed, or Brassica napus, is commonly used to make canola oil. If some people object to the plant's "common" name, it can always be called brassica, rapa, or rapaseed... Those are some other names for the same plant.

WHAT? You mean it's not?? And I thought you all ate that while you played hockey on a moose or something ;)

And A4F, I guess if we wanted to go all stereotypy, it would make sense for the conspiracy theory to be about a plant, since you guys are all nice and polite and everything up there; a plant is a nice harmless thing to have evil conspiracies over. ;)

As for this rapeseed thingy issue; here's a question: What arguments are there FOR having it be called rapeseed, as opposed to Canola, or whatever else you want to call it that wouldn't potentially offend people, or get jumped by the chat censors? Because if there aren't any, then it seems to make more sense to change it for practical reasons and to avoid possible offense.

Alright so far I've just been laughing at some of the comments :) I think it's called rapeseed because of the translator thing because Latten did say once that the details come out in german and he translates them in english :)

    Those poor cows/workers/cabbages... :(

Was there REALLY something about weird things in the sky in other events as Latten mentioned? I must have been totally unobservant or something. But I don't really pay much attention to the Twins anyway because I find them annoying and obnoxious. :(

Anyway, this discussion totally reminds me of the X files episode of the Simpsons. Is Mulder going to come and investigate? Because, you know, he's totally amazeballs. david-duchovny-top-11-simpsons_288x288.jpg

I totally forgot about that Simpsons episode. Is it totally ironic that I've been watching Roswell all week? Oh and Wall-e. I wonder what the mods are thinking when they read this thread :P

Who cares about the seed term? There are other words with inappropriate letters in them "therapist".....shall we change this word too? Its an actual plant name not a malicious word.

I think the worry is that it could potentially be offensive, and also for practical reasons it wouldn't get past the mail filters so you couldn't even talk about your seeds if you wanted to, which seems kind of silly and self-defeating since both the name of the seed and the filter are made by GGS.

I also had my coffee go the wrong way when I read it, although it more felt like a hammer on the head. I don't like the word at all!
But if it hadn't already been mentioned, I doubt I would've started about it. If it can/will be changed I would be very happy, so I won't have to see the word in my game each time.

If not, the event won't be here all the time and I'll just think 'KOOLZAAD,KOOLZAAD' (dutch word for it) very loudly in my head each time I plant it.

Yeah good point jay but in the end you can't please everyone. There will always be someone somewhere that will have negative thoughts about an update no matter how good it is. Its a pity though, i think the term "rapeseed" would be relevant for an alien event.....in regards to probing and what not! lol.........sorry mods! :D

Haha, KOOLZAAD!! WOW! That word is WAY awesomer than "rapeseed"! They should just use that in the event, notwithstanding that it's not in English... :D

Wow! 55 posts and the biggest topic for discussion is from a bunch of posters who are concerned that a whole different bunch of posters may find that the name of a genuine plant called rape which is harvested for its seeds which are then crushed to make vegetable oil may be inappropriate or offensive, yet none of those other bunch of posters has made any such comment (whoever they are supposed to be). And if you think that it's inappropriate or offensive for kids to learn about this plant then perhaps you should go and see a therapist (or is that word inappropriate and/or offensive as well?).

Post nr 53 Hodor (seems a bit weird to quote myself)

I clearly state that I find it a not nice word at all! I could've lived very happily without the knowledge of that translation for koolzaad.

Will there be any effect on production/construction times on other farms too (Gourmet and Flower) during "New Prime Day" or is it just Main farm?
