Raising Money for Relief Funds.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could buy gold and the money we spent went to aid the Philippines ? Or help feed the hungry this holiday season. I believe that both would be tax deductible to both the game maker and the player. Be worth checking out.:)

I guess it would be who they donate the money through. Some tax deductible charity like the American Red Cross or someone like them.

I think this is a brilliant idea, we are an international community with players all over the world. We have players from the philippines in our co-op, we send our good wishes to them, and we are doing individual fundraising and we chat about that in our co-op, I raised £100 yesteday running a 'guess the weight of the cake' competition but I think it would be great if we could buy gold to donate to the disaster fund appeal just as long as we knew it all went to the appeal, and GG didn't make money out of it. No disrespect to GG, they are a business and I love this game, but if they did something for charity I would feel differently about that.

Well, I must say, something like this might get me to bite the bullet and buy gold once, I appreciate all those who do, I cannot usually afford it, but this would be extra justification for my husband, lol. I also wouldn't mind if GGS took some of it. In most charities, only like 30 percent of your donation actually goes to feeding the hungry or whatever it is your donating for, the rest goes to administration and to getting more money (like catering at fundraisers or television ads) GGS could take 5% off the top and give the rest to an appropriate charity. Could do it often too, might get me to buy gold often. The typhoon that just hit the phillippines seems like a good reason to start now.

Sorry guys, i disagree on this!:(
Not that i dont want to support the Phillipines. Its just that i dont like to mix gaming (or buying anything else) with aid donations.
Maybe i would like to support the Phillipines, but whats next? Supporting some gurilla group to change their gouvernment? (to take it to the extreme)?(
I have my own plan on aiding - i choose one place to donate my money, instead of spreading it around. But thats just my choise.
Dont mix gaming with other blurry stuff. Keep it as it is, please!:)

    Not keen on this either

I'm not against supporting the Philippine Relief Fund, in fact I have given. And that is really my point. If you want to support it, then just give a donation

This sounds you will only give if you get something in return (Gold). Which is selfish not charitable.

GGS is already supporting Movember. If they want to give to the Relief Fund I'm sure they will. But if you want to support the Relief Fund than just give them a donation without any expectation of something for yourself, except the warm satisfaction of doing a nice thing

Hahaha what? Nobody said that GGS was donating to a guerrilla group. I thought the focus was on helping people after Typhoon Haiyan.

Our community is an international one. If some of our members are in a situation where (due to nothing they've personally done) they are in bad shape, what is wrong with helping them out? If GGS supporting disaster relief is going to get 1) more money for them, 2) actual benefits for real life people affected by disaster, 3) warm fuzzies for us, then what's wrong with that?

The point is that this might cause people who otherwise WOULDN'T contribute to a charity to actually do so. Super props to the people here who already have contributed to disaster relief, but if some sort of incentive system would help more people do so, I do not see the harm in encouraging people to buy gold if a portion would go to help those in need.

As for supporting guerrilla groups-- I SERIOUSLY doubt that this is an appropriate slippery slope argument. Natural disasters are nonpolitical. I don't think that it would be appropriate for GGS in representing an international community to be involved on contributing to political causes, but I see no harm for things like disaster relief, which, as I said, are nonpartisan and simply involve alleviating human suffering, regardless of who those humans are.

Ok, jaystarr, not a guerilla group then.. ^^
    - i said "to take it to the extreme!" :)
But its difficult to mention something that i wouldnt aid, because rest assured somebody would turn up and scream at me - you wouldnt support that, you cheap *** something... :)
You have a point that maybe somebody would contribute, that otherwise wouldnt. Still, i dont like to mix up things too much. It gets blurry and difficult to see where my money goes. As i mentioned, ive already chosen who i want to aid, and by the way that organization is helping the Phillipines greatly right now.
Ive chosen to aid an organization that helps with basic needs as food and health issues; other people might want to help people get more education or whatever. Its a personal choice, and i prefer to keep it that way.

Same here! I rarely buy gold but would be more likely to do so if all of it or even a percentage went to aid the people in the Phillippines.

I think I wasn't clear, if I just bought gold and then GG donated money then this is not a donation I would be making but a donation that GG would be making, my suggestion intended that any gold I bought would have an option to donate to an appeal fund and so would not be credited to my farm. I thought it would be a good idea because it reflects the international community that GG has created with this game and so I thought they might be up for donating a bit of their tech to enabling this to happen. But I honestly don't think it will happen, not least because of the negative feedback on this forum, which I think is a shame.

I will pass it on to the devs and talk to people who may have a decision in this, but I can't promise anything.
Don't forget that there are already some charities going on where you can easily help out if you want to. Also there are sites helping you setting up an own charity, like BetterPlace.org, which is the first one that comes to my mind that's trustworthy and helpful ^^

I want to remind you though that the Movember thing isn't affiliated by GGS in any official way, but a completely private drive we got going inside Community Management.

I'm all for generosity and charity, don't get me wrong, but I simply cannot understand the idea that you would buy gold if a small fraction of the money went to charity. Why not donate the money to charity and cut out the middleman? If you want gold, buy gold: but buying gold and giving to charity are completely independent decisions.

Regarding to have a fundraising to help the people in Philipines, if you are really eager to help donate, there are aleady plenty of orginasation that are trying to help, like example Red Cross. The so called "I will only help someone , if I can some benefit out of it" is I.m.o just b-s excuse my language. Me personally again don't mind giving out money already to Red Cross, Salvation army and other charity orginasation without having to be rewarded for doing that. It should just come out of your heart and not just to do with a game. Now that was my 2 cents in this
