This is Barney, he was found abandoned as a kitten in a barn covered in black muck, after 6 years, his elderly owner got blood poisoning from a scatch he gave her and she was going to have to rehome him, but she passed him on to me as I live next door, so she gets to see him and I get the scratches ! Not really - he's fine, just like any other cat he has sharp claws, but he's careful with them. He's about 8 years old in these pictures -

This is Tonto. He is a shepard/terrier mix. I came home from class one day and my wife told me we were taking a trip. She didn't tell me where we were going, and 45 minutes later we arrived at a rescue shelter in Indiana. She led me inside and we were introduced to little 6 week old Tonto. My wife had seen him online, and when he fell asleep in her lap during our initial meeting, the director told us she thought he had found his family. A week later we brought him home and he is now a 70 pound 2 year old who still firmly believes he is a lapdog.

This is Obed, his name means servant in Hebrew, but who serves who? He is quite content as he sleeps in my arms.

This is Ahavah. Her name means love in Hebrew, but when she was a pup, she was very mischievous. When we would fold laundry she would rush in and snag something small, so we would chase her.

This is our white pigeon Juwel. My grandfather got him from somebody that found him, made a pen for him and kept him there. When my grandfather passed away, we decided to take care of him, so he moved to our place. At first he was a little skittish, but eventually I managed to pick him up and now he is used to that. He can sit on your hand and coo all the time :P He always coos when somebody makes a noise near him, and definitely when you come into the shed where his pen is. He loves the company. In summers I take him out in the pink cage you can see on the pictures. He sometimes tries to escape, but we do not let him, because we are not sure if he understands he should return and he may fly off and not survive. He also defends his territory when he is in his bigger pen and if you had just put him back in, you can do a little boxing match with him :P He will peck on your hand and if you push him away a bit he walks around and charges again :P It is so funny and no, the pecking does not hurt at all ^^

This is Butch. I got her as a kitten, off my mom's uncles farm outside Portland, Indiana. Had her eight years, until she was recently ran down by a careless driver. She was the greatest cat in the world. I've owned many cats, over the years, & never one like her. You are greatly missed Butch...

This is my forever puppy Raleigh:

Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

Raleigh is a Shi-poo, which is part Shih tzu and part Poodle.
Being 4 years old and weighing only 16 pounds definitely makes him a forever puppy.
He is a bit of nutcase some times, because he barks all the time, and at just about anything, even the wind. But at the end of the day he'll cuddle up next to you and fall asleep. :)
No matter how loud or crazy Raleigh maybe, I wouldn't trade him for anything.

I am the proud mother of two miniature dachshunds named George and Ollie. They are the inspiration behind my game name.

    Attachment not found.

I have had Ollie the longest - he came to me around six months old - five years ago. Here's a picture of him when he was still a little puppy.

    Attachment not found.

His ears still flip back like that - one of his silly little traits that made me fall in love with him. Getting a dog was not in my plans when Ollie came along. At the time, I was the mother of an elderly cat and the last thing I wanted to do was to introduce a puppy into the equation. One of my coworkers had a dog that had a litter and they had been able to get rid of all except Ollie. This is how the conversations went over time. "If I didn't have a cat, I would take Ollie." "If it wasn't tax season (I worked in a CPA firm), I would take Ollie." "If you can't find anyone else, I will take Ollie."

My cat, Lucky, and Ollie enjoyed a love/hate relationship until she crossed over the rainbow bridge less than a year later. At that time, I was extremely thankful that I had Ollie in my life to help fill the void left from her companionship of 13 years.

George joined our little family almost two years after I got Ollie.

    Attachment not found.

He was rescued by another coworker's family from a puppy mill, where he had been a breeder for five years. He was not potty trained and had never been out of a cage. Due to his condition when rescued, he had lost all his teeth except three (which is why his tongue sticks out - he is currently down to one tooth only). The family started having issues with their teenage sons letting George out of his cage without letting him outside immediately. Since he was not potty trained, he would squat and pee in the house. Their father started coming into work asking if anyone knew someone who wanted a dog. I already had Ollie so I was good. After a few weeks of asking, he came in one day and sighed. "If no one takes George here soon, we are gong to have to take him back to the pound." After debating about it for about an hour, I went to him and "If you can wait until after tax season (see I told you it was the approximately the same time of year that I got Ollie), I will take him."

I have never regretted that decision in the two years I have had him. He is one of the friendliest, easy going dogs I have ever known and balances nicely with Ollie's overly hyper attitude. He will be turning ten next March and I know that although the start of his life was rocky, he has been spoiled rotten the last half of his life.

I also know that I have been blessed having these two "sons" in my life.

I have 2 dogs, I have a female named kelly and a male named scooter. I don't have a picture of them to post but they are very good dogs, when I am sick in bed they lay with me for hours, when I set in my chair they sat at my feet. sometimes they set in my lap but I don't get to hold them very much because it hurts me, they try to help me and I have no ideal what I would do without them, they are not dogs to me they are my babies.

I often think sometimes that she is so smart and has so much personality that she is more like a person than a dog…

When playing fetch, she will not chase the ball unless she sees it leave your hands.

She refuses to wear a leash because she thinks it is beneath her. She will walk in front so that she can lead the way. One time we tried playing a trick on her by suddenly turning around and walking the other way but she noticed right away and quickly turned around and trotted past us so that she was back in front.

She plays hide and seek. My husband will hide somewhere in the house and Kira will run around everywhere until she finds him. When she finally finds him she will bark at him until he comes out.

    Attachment not found.

She knows that she is not allowed in my vegetable garden but anything hanging over the edges seems to be fair game. She will sneak peas off the vine (which she then shells so as to only eat the peas inside) and pick ripe tomatoes (of course she only wants the nice red ones). She even eats corn right off the cob.

She likes to steal my gardening gloves and mittens off my hands only to drop them just out of my reach.

When she was a puppy she was taken home and returned by three other families before she finally came home with my husband. Although she was a handful… she has become such a wonderful pet and my husband’s best friend. Whether it is out in the truck checking crops or in the tractor plowing fields or just going for a ride on the quad, she is always at my husband’s side. Now that we have a daughter, Kira has taken it upon herself to be the chief babysitter! She wants to know where the baby is at all times and usually always has her in her sight. Even when I am changing her diaper, Kira sits right by the door to make sure I am doing it properly!

    Attachment not found.

Just recently we had to put a cone on her so that she couldn’t lick a wound on her leg. She makes sure to bang it on every corner and every object in our house to remind us of how humiliating it is for her to have to wear this thing. As if that wasn’t enough, she continues to try to drive her point home by hitting us on the backs of our knees with the edge of the cone anytime she catches us standing or walking. But, as annoying as she can sometimes be, I don’t know what we would do without her.

This is my curly bison Sarah. Sarah is three years old. Her birthday is April 1, and we make her a cake every year. Sarah has a daughter, Maggie, who lives with us, and also has five daughters and one son who are housed with other families. These two are great together and are constantly playing. We love them so much.

I always thought of myself as a dog person. But here I am, having 2 cats. Well, actually, I don't have them... It's more like they have me. :)

My elder cat is a 6 years old female, named Mika. She was a birthday gift. She was 3 months old at the time and the last of her litter. I wasn't planning on getting a cat but, as soon as I laid eyes on her, I knew I couldn't just walk away. She's a typical cat, very independent, very skittish. She likes cuddling, but only when she's in the mood. But she always knows when you're not feeling so good and, on those occasions, she becomes a true companion.

And here she is, laying on one of her favorite places!

    Attachment not found.on

My younger cat is a male. His name is Jim. We found him newborn, in a trash can in the street. He was inside a plastic bag, amidst organic garbage. Fortunately, he had good lungs and he was crying so loud that we heard him and rescued him.

He was really tiny, still had the umbilical cord and his ears folded down and the eyes closed, unable to hear or see. Did you know that newborn kittens, like human newborns, are unable to regulate their body temperatures? And, unlike human babies, they cannot urinate or defecate unaided during their first two weeks? I didn't... But had to learn quickly. My daughter and I did night shifts so we could feed him every 2/3 hours during his first 4 weeks of life. And he grew...

You can see Jim here, 6 days after we got him, when he was already opening his eyes.

    Attachment not found.

This was July of 2010. Jim is now a big cat. :) Althought he is not as typical as Mika. Sometimes I even wonder if he knows he's a cat. :) For instance, he doesn't bathe himself, probably because he didn't have a mother to teach him that. He does occasionally allow Mika to bathe him, but not for long.

    Here is Jim today.

Here are pictures of my rats, Sappho and Donut. They are sisters--Sappho is the smart one, Donut is the cute (but really, really dumb) one.

Sappho's a chocolate hooded rat who is named after the Greek Poet. She likes riding on my shoulder (kinda like if I were a pirate), and she is trained to bring me pencils. She also knows how to play fetch, and she likes digging holes in the garden. Her favorite treat is crushed up dog biscuits. It's almost as if she were a tiny dog, really. :D

    Sappho.jpg

Donut got her name because she's a ruby-eyed rat (which means she has dark red eyes), and she's a hooded amber rat. Basically, her coloring makes her look like a jelly donut. She's the derpier of the two rats, and often does stuff like fall in her water bowl, and run in circles. I don't know, she might be a special needs rat or something, if those exist. But she loves exploring (so long as everything is soft and relatively flat so she doesn't fall off things).

    donut.jpg

They also like to eat honey nut cheerios, which the like to hold like little steering wheels :)

My pet is Snitcher; a brown standard dachshund. He is the very favorite pet I had in my entire life; I am now 63 years old. When I was 5 and 6 my father was very ill with cancer and dying. After one operation he came home for several months. My older brother, 17½ years older, gave him a dachshund puppy to keep him company. Snitcher got his name by stealing shoes and chewing them up, teething. I remember losing a sneaker to him; found it several weeks later stuck behind a book on the bottom shelf of a bookcase. I’ve always wondered if the dog hid it or one of my brothers or sister? I remember walks with my father and the puppy. Time spent then was precious. After my father died, Snitcher searched the entire house for him, then laid on the floor crying. I remember sitting on a step petting Snitcher, talking to my father who I believed had gone to heaven. This dog helped me accept the death of my father at a very young age.

Snitcher lived to be 10 years old and died of cancer himself. I remember crying the day he died.

When my booys were teens we had a pet snake. Just a garter snake named Stretch. We would take it outside to feed it. We had feeder goldfish for some pet oscars, so fed it goldfish. We would put a gold fish in a bowl, put the bowl on the ground, put Stretch partly into the bowl. All of us were watched as the snake took the fish and then swallowed it. If you're going to keep a snake, you have to enjoy the show.

This is my cat Toby. It's a nickname given by my Grand Mother. He was born this year.We have had him when he was born. Toby is a special for me because he is always around me. Where ever I goes he comes right with me.He wanted to be with me all the time

Toby's favorite ways to spend the day includes chase a ball, sleeping , biting nose, watching passerby and birds through the window, murmuring , playing with toys , etc..
During night he plays with his favorite mice toy.

He wakes up early in the morning and goes to balcony. He stands there and stares at the passerby outside for hours. Sometimes he climbs upstairs to look outside as well. He just love to look outside through a window either standing in a balcony. It is the most fun for him to watch the birds, passerby , flies around the balcony. At noon time he plays with bottle caps and paper balls.

He always comes close to me when I'm upset. He is like my best friend. When he gets very excited and is close to your face, he tries to bite your nose.:).When he wants to play, he starts to jump everywhere on the floor and on my shoulder. He is very playful as he plays with a bouncy ball everyday. After playing with a ball he loves to drink tap water in the garden. When he is tired after playing and walking he comes inside and snuggles under the warm blanket.

At the moment Toby is sleeping next to me, he don't like any kind of noise while sleeping. Therefore I'll turn off my speaker..:)

Whenever I am bored i goes and sit with Toby. Every time I tries to talk with him. He is very talkative because a sound "meow" comes from his side. He looks very very cute when he talks to me. Even when he sleeps he looks very adorable. He is very incredible to me because he always filled my days with laughter , lot of joy and love.

I had figured out that pets are the part of our families. They brings unconditional love , enjoyment to our lives.

    Love you Toby. :)

You're all so lucky to have these wonderful pets... do me a favor and appreciate every day with them! (wow, this sounds cheesy...)

Well, the fourth round is now over and this thread will hence be closed.

We will inform you about the results of this event as soon as possible. With the list of participants being huge in all countries, this may take a while, though.
