My friend asked me, “Where are you going with that rifle?”
“Pig hunting in the big thicket on the edge of the farm.” I answered. About ten years ago several pigs had escaped and gotten into the woods, now they are feral. They destroy fields when we don’t hunt them enough. “Maybe I’ll get that really big boar we saw last time.”
“Hold on a minute; I’ll come with you. We can have a pig roast this weekend.” We took off for the woods in his old silver truck, full of laughter and high spirits at the fun to come.
The hunt didn’t go so well that day. The big boar circled around me and charged. I quickly sighted for the shot, but in my haste left the safety on. I leaped to a tree in a panic, scrambling up, I knew I wasn’t going to make it in time .I was so lucky that my friend had my back; he brought it down with a single shot. I know I could never have made that shot.
We had a big pig roast for the entire farm staff that weekend. Everyone enjoyed the tale of the pig hunt. The third time we told it we were jumping around reenacting the hunt. Everyone knew I was a klutz and my friend a big hero, but I didn’t care. It had been a great hunt, and a fun pig roast. It is a wonderful life here on the farm with all my friends.
‘Horses’, said some, ‘we would love to have horses to ride, the manure is great for growing roses’
‘Oh I can’t do that’ said Aardvark, ‘horses don’t fit on a farm’
‘Wine’, said others, ‘we would love to relax with some wine’
‘Oh I can’t do that, children might see and that would never do!’
‘Bacon ’ the workers said, ‘cabbage soup is boring, a BLT sandwich would be great’
‘Oh I can’t do that’ said Aardvark, ‘we can’t kill the pigs, I just sell them so others can do it’
The farm was nearly bankrupt, lots of people offered advice.
Benny said Aardvark should use super fertiliser, expensive the crops would grow better!
Monty suggested Aardvark tried playing roulette to win money.
Monica offered to lend him money at favourable rates.
Steve, Eva and Vicky offered help but wanted paying in gold.
George suggested Aardvark should sell the new-fangled machine, he didn’t need all that stuff back in the day, Lester said he’d buy it for half what it cost.
Daniel said he would bring ideas from around the world.
Tessa offered to keep Jack and Jim busy so they wouldn’t get in the way.
Matilda and Lily said Aardvark should diversify and open a restaurant and flower shop
The workers planned to run away to a nicer farm with more luxurious houses. Aardvark saw they were collecting money and provisions and so took the bags they carried and built bigger gates and fences. Aardvark decided to landscape the farm so planted trees and built lakes, waterfalls and fairy-tale towers. The workers by this time were all suffering from Stockholm syndrome so this made them very happy. They worked harder and the farm became profitable again. Rita started to write an article about the gross capitalist exploitation of the workers but spilt her latte all over it so she wrote an article about shoes instead and they all lived happily ever after.
Monica was on the scene ready to make some good deals to help finance the fields’ upgrades. Matilda MacMuffin was thrilled at the prospect of growing organic cabbage for the cabbage soup offered in the restaurant. Farmer George and Benny Buddler were deep in conversation over the most optimal way to grow corn to mill some premium chicken feed for the farm’s coops. Vicky Ventura and Lilly Littlefoot were in a heated discussion over whether wildflowers for bouquets or wheat for cow feed should be planted first. Daniel was seen talking to Steve Screwdriver about the prospect of upgrading the cozy farm house to ultimately cut down on construction time for the field. Monty offered Tessa a free spin at the wheel to see if she could win some rose seeds. Lester showed up for the event, lurking in the shadows, sizing up the new competition.
This just in, Eva Apple lost her bees again! Tessa should start harvesting quick

Jack and Jim were twins who worked on the farm together. They got tasks done faster than anyone else; their hands faster than lightning. They worked as one person, helping all of the others.
One day, Jack and Jim were strolling through the farm when they saw Eva Apple worrying about her hives.
“What’s wrong?” Jack asked.
“My bees aren’t working!” she cried.
“Why not?” Jack asked, as he looked into one of the hives. The bees sat there lazily, not moving or working, and that was not like them.
“It’s Benny Buddler”, Eva sighed, “He has more fertilizer than he knows what to do with, and the farmer said that he won’t spend money to make more. So all that dung is just sitting around, and the bees can’t smell Lilly Littlefoot’s flowers because of it. So they stopped working. Now what am I supposed to do?”
“Why don’t we find a way to store all of the dung so that it stops confusing the bees”, Jim said pensively, and Eva agreed excitedly.
So, Jack and Jim called Steve Screwdriver over and the three got to work on building a silo. They worked all day and all night, ignoring their exhaustion and the passing days. But when the silo was done, it was a thing of pride for all of them, and Jack and Jim quickly set themselves to the task of filling the silo with the dung that had been piling up.
The two were exhausted when they worked, but were satisfied as they started to see the first bees travelling over to the fields. Worn out, Jim fell asleep by the silo, leaving his brother Jack to finish up their work. Jack was so mad when he finished up, hours later than he would have if Jim had helped, he dragged Jim into the silo and locked him in with the dung.
Jim got really mad when he woke up, angry that his brother had played a practical joke on him. He couldn’t wash the smell of dung off of him for a week. Ever since then, Jack’s been trying to figure out the perfect practical joke to play on his brother while Jim helps others, trying to make up for what he did to his brother.
And that is the story of Jack and Jim; brothers in blood, but different in every other way.
Hello, my name is Betty Sue. You can find me or one of my many identical sisters working on your local Big Farm. We are easy to spot with our long blonde hair and the blue coveralls we all like to wear. We are also carrying around a green ledger because we like counting items – items like how many eggs your chickens make, how many wildflowers grow in the field, or how many units of dung you need to make one bag of fertilizer.
The biggest challenge I face with this job is that when I leave my house I may not know exactly where I am on the farm. While I am at home enjoying my downtime, something comes along and moves my house to a different location. It is not only my house that is usually affected. The windmill, the barns, the cow sheds, the pig stys, the silo, the chicken coops, and the fields change their positions too. On the really strange days, the buildings stay the same but the decorations on the farm move. I am walking the normal route to the composter and all of a sudden the fountain that should be over by the cow shed is in front of me. Or even worse, a fairy tale tower I have never seen appears where there had been a lake on my way to the cherry orchard.
If this is not enough to make a girl’s head spin, a giant arrow follows me around throughout my day. I see it coming and I try to dodge it by changing my path suddenly. When that is not possible, the arrow catches up to me. After this happens, it clicks on me and steals an item that I am carrying to storage. It can be an ear of corn, a head of cabbage or even some cash I have in my pocket. I have no say in the matter.
But then again, I do have a nice house to stay in, beautiful decorations to appreciate as I wonder through the homestead keeping my eyes open for those unexpected changes, and I get to spend every day with my identical sisters – all six, no there are seven . . . um eight . . . okay there are a lot of us. What more does a girl need?
Dear Mother Hen,
Life on the farm just hasn't been the same since you flew the coop. I feel so lost without you and miss you every minute. Vet Vicky said she's so sorry she couldn't fix your broken wings but not to worry because Jesus would give you a new pair that would never break again. Do you think He can give me a new pair too so I can fly up there to see you in Heaven?
I met some new hens...you'd really like them. They are all so nice and they've taken me under their wing and helping me not feel so alone. If all goes well, I'll be staying here with them in the big coop. So don't worry, I'm still counting my blessings and I won't put all of my eggs in one basket and I'll try to not get my feathers ruffled over nothing.
I love you momma...

In memory of my Mother Hen
March 25, 1948 - Sept. 25, 2013
The coop was full of chickens
All the Cows were saying moo.
Pigs were all a’oinking
While the farmer collects the poo!
The silo’s working busy
Fertilizer it does make
Windmill sits there idle
Upgrade too long to wait
Fields are full of wildflowers,
Cabbage, corn and wheat.
Apples in the orchards
Cherries, oh so sweet,
Workers throw their bags up
If you’re quick enough catch
Special items they do carry
Like eggs that do not hatch.
The Gourmet farm is busy
Twigs and leaves the Goats are fed.
The bakery is in full swing
But it doesn’t bake the bread!
Scented oils line all the shelves
Along with special soap
The flower shop is awesome
Just as well the workers cope.
We keep the workers happy
With decorations everywhere
Big farm game is full of fun
Only enter if you dare!!
Baby chic! I love your story and we are so glad that you are a part of our co-op!!!
good luck
One morning, i woke up to the sound of my alarm............ ordinary, right??????????
no, not at all! because, as i opened my eyes, i saw myself in a magnificent farmhouse!!!!!!! and guess what, farmer Tessa was sitting right next to me!!!!!!!!!
at 5 a.m., she took me out to work in the fields, where we sowed corn and wheat. after HOURS of irrigation, manuring and weeding, she took me to the composter to draw out humus...... I tell you, the smell was AWFUL!!!!!!
In the afternoon, dear absent- minded Eva emerged, and as usual SHE HAD LOST HER BEES!!!!!!!! upon searching for them on the entire farm with the help of dear, helpful Benny, i finally found them in the cherry orchard. Now, i'll tell you one secret about Benny, he's awfully scared of bees!!!!!!!!
anyhow, Eva got her bees, Tessa got all the job done on her fields, and i got a hell lot of bruises, and a golden lesson- FARM LIFE IS NOT EASY!!!!!! Tessa gently applied some medicine on my wounds and put me to sleep. when i woke up, i was in my own room, with no trace of any wound!!!!!!!!!! was it a dream, then??????? As i pondered over this fact, i saw Tessa's hat right next to my bed!!!!!!! so friends, was it REALLY a dream?????? you decide...........
It was 21.1.13.farmer George was alone in his little farm in Malgudi. All farmers went to town for their new jobs. But George left with little animals.one day Tessa came with a chicken who was laying golden eggs.they became good friends.they thought, "we can start a co-op". they made a big co-op.they had so many friends and they had many golden eggs.one day two robbers joined in his co-op and they stole the golden chicken with golden eggs. the robbers made their own co-op and they finished all research and project with golden chicken. But they were no happy, they had no friends.other side George was very happy with his friends. After some days the golden chicken died.
On a nice spring day, in the land of Big Farm, it was time for the Rainbow Family's cows to go grazing.
Every year, there were young cows who arrived to the age in which to choose a husband to have children and start milking.
Every year all the bulls were showing off to be chosen.
In this particular year there was a very beautiful cow and all the bulls were trying to win her heart. Usually cows liked strong and popular bulls so all the bulls were fighting around her to demonstrate their strength, but this beautiful cow would only look at the heart of her pretenders and there was nobody she liked.
One day while she was grazing around she saw an old friend looking at her from far away with handsome and loving blue eyes, she walked to him and asked him how come she hadn't seen him for so long since they usually always played together. The bull, a bit shy, answered that she had so many strong and popular pretenders he thought it was useless to show up at this time. She looked at her handsome and sensitive bull friend and said: "you are strong and popular too, and beside that, you are also handsome and sensitive and you have the most sincere heart I've ever met. We are best friends since we were born, how can you think I prefer you hide from me instead of coming to say hello?" he answered: " To be honest I have always loved you so much that I wanted you to choose the best bull in Big Farm! All I want is for you to be happy and to choose freely the bull you want to marry. You know I don't like to show off and I thought that if I would come you would have a hard time saying no to your best friend!".
She looked at him with her loving green eyes and and she said: "There isn't any bull I love more than you, and nobody else could ever make me happier than you always have".
So he kissed her and they married and lived happily ever after in Big Farm.
(Sorry for mistakes or grammar errors but English is not my mother tongue^^:p:))
After changing clothes, we headed out to start work on the farm. As we were walking towards the fields I told her, "Now everything has to be done in a certain order to keep the farm running smoothly but don't you worry, I'll explain as we go." Rita exclaimed, "Oh great! I'm so excited!" "First we're goin' to harvest the fields. Then we'll take the crops to the mill so they can be turned into feed for the critters." I said. While we were waiting for the feed to be ready, we walked over to the barbecue area to get a bite to eat. After finishing our lunch we walked back to the mill to gather feed.
First we fed the chickens, then the pigs & finally the cows. Rita declared, "Your animals are so cute & friendly". "Thank you! I believe they eat better than we do." I proclaimed. We collected eggs, pigs & milk for the market. "The eggs & milk are needed on the gourmet farm for my family recipes. The pigs are sold as pets." I said. "Wow! I can't wait to see what delicious dishes you serve in you restaurant. I would love to have a pet pig myself." said Rita.
As we strolled across the pasture, poor Rita slipped and fell into quite a mess. "The dung that we collect from the stables will be turned into fertilizer in the silo. We will then fertilize the apple & cherry orchards." I told Rita with a half smile. After a long hard day at work we went over to the restaurant to enjoy a nice dinner. Rita had a great time at the farm and jus' adores her new piglet. I'm pretty sure she'll write an educational and lovely article about all of her new experiences today.
The cabbage is growing but there’s no way of knowing if it’ll taste nice in Matilda’s stew
Eva’s apples are sweet and will make a nice treat for Tessa’s scouts to have for their tea
But look out here’s Lester, it’s Monty he’ll pester to play wheel of fortune for free
Rita’s writing a piece about Vicky’s geese that chased her all over the house
The twins thought up a joke to tease the good folk and scare Daniel and Steve with a mouse
They put one down Dan’s pants to see how he’d dance and another they hid in Steve’s hat
But Monica was quick and noticed their trick and chased it away with her cat
George, Benny and Steve were all very relieved when the twins were sent home to bed
But Lily was kind and she didn’t mind if they came back tomorrow she said
The sun’s going down over Goodgame town, and the hens will soon be asleep
So I’ll finish this here and be of good cheer, there’s an exciting new update next week

It is 4am, time to get up to bring in the cows and take them to the milking parlour for milking then they get cleaned and ted before they go back to the fields where they can graze. The chickens and pigs are fed and the eggs are collected. The chickens like to scratch around in the yard and the pigs dig the ground with their snouts getting muddy. Today wheat is being harvested, at other times of the year it might be ploughing, drilling or sowing.
There are always lots of jobs to be done around the farm. Checking the crops to make sure there are no infestations and spraying for weeds, maintaining and fixing the machinery, checking the animals are healthy and getting the vet if necessary. Checking the livestock is very important. If an animal is sick it needs to be identified and treated quickly, partly because this is the best thing for the animal but also to stop the animal from making any of the others sick too.
The farm is a business so there is also all the financial accounting to be done, records have to be kept on all the animals and everything that is done. All the animals need passports so that when we sell them the new owner knows their history and where they came from.
In the afternoon the cows are milked again. In the winter they sleep in the barns but they prefer it in the summer when they live out in the fields. Young animals may need feeding more than once a day, so they are fed.
It’s the end of the day and everyone can rest. Although if the cows are calving or pigs are farrowing then work will carry on through the night. Working on a farm, being outside in all weathers and working long hours, is hard but it is interesting and challenging work, there is always something different to be done.

Four a.m and 25 degrees outside and six iches of neew snow fell during the night. Just want to crawl back in bed, but know my ladies are waiting for me. Put on everything I can find, two sweaters, hooded sweat jacket, and wool overcoat, felt lined pants, wool socks, snow boots and gloves. Ready for the 40 foot walk to the ladies, but first a stop in the nudroom, pick up two buckets and out the door. Make my way thru the power snow, kicking up tiny clouds of dry powder. Make it to the door...with nice pink nose, open the door and the warm air rushs by my face and the smell of the ladies pours out. Rush in close the door and reach for the light switch. Four 60 watts bulb flash on and the ladies come to life. Twenty beautiful red heads sitting in a row of laying boxes. Rhode Island Reds, nesting and my cold hands needing to be warmed .Poor girls don't like being the first one on a cold morning but I sure love their warm bodies and eggs. LOve my life on a farm...LOL. Collect the eggs and use second buckeyt to pass out feed and then water. Leave light on and will return to check water and feed after lunch. Now back out and make my way to the kitchen to cook breakfast for the gang. With warm hands and happy thoughts.
Check it though, it's bound to be funny!

Monty’s life was not always so different. Once, he had owned a farm, with a mill, orchards, and even a scarecrow or two. Once, he had a home, fields, and animals to care for. Once, he had been like everyone else in the village.
But he was a gambler. Dice had been Monty’s game, and he was surprisingly good. Some say that he had made a deal with Lady Luck herself. Some say that she gave him his betting tokens. But whatever the story was, for any roll of the dice, Monty could call it.
One fateful Tuesday, Monty was on an amazing streak. He had been winning all day. He knew he had won enough to retire comfortably. He could spend the rest of his days with his farm, his fields and his animals. But he wanted more. He felt invincible. Sunk costs, his greed and his very pride kept him rolling the dice, over and over.
And then, inevitably, the dice came up snake eyes. Fortuna, his Lady Luck, had deserted him. He lost everything in one swoop; the only way he could settle his debt was to sell his beloved farm.
When his farm closed, Monty gathered up what he could—animal feed, the scarecrows, some of last season’s harvests—and loaded up his truck. His cane was all that remained of his cherry orchards. The only thing left was to distribute his farm goods to his neighbors. He knew he would never play dice again, but he wanted to give everyone an equal chance at his wares. How could he do that fairly? A wry smile glimmered on his face as he devised a most cunning plan.
Late that night, Monty crept into the village. He fished Fortuna’s betting tokens out of his pockets and threw them over fences, into fields, into the sails of nearby mills, where they pattered softly as they landed. He hoisted the door off his barn and fashioned it into a wheel, which he painted with symbols to represent the few gifts that he had. Exhausted, but satisfied, he crawled into his weathered truck to sleep.
Daybreak came. He drew his threadbare coat around him and dusted off his hat. He readjusted his tie and started his weary engine. Maybe Fortuna will smile on someone else, Monty thought, as he coaxed the truck towards the village.
There was one sunny day, when Grandma Matilda received a special phone call from her beloved grandchild Josie, saying that she would come over to pay Matilda a visit during her school holiday. Matilda was so happy after hearing the news and wanted to give her granddaughter a little surprises.
Day passes by day, finally the day has come. Two young parents brought little Josie along to Matilda's farmhouse at the countryside, and found Matilda was very busy preparing dishes for them in the kitchen. "Hi Grandma, I missed you so much!" Josie ran towards Matilda and screamed like nobody else could hear her. "Hi Sweetie, I missed you a lot too! Come dear, Grandma has made you something special here!" Matilda said. Josie then took a bite of the food on her plate... "Ewww I hate vege!" Josie yelled and spitted the food out. Matilda & the two young parents were there and saw everything. The three adults tried so hard to convince her but they failed with shaking heads. Suddenly "ding" , an idea flashed across Matilda's mind. "It's okay dear, don't worry, Grandma Matilda still has another specialty - The Marzipan Ice-cream!" Matilda looked at drooling little Josie, she definitely knows of a young, little kid's desire. "But you have to make a deal with grandma before you can have that ice-cream, is it okay?" Josie looked back at Matilda with many questions on her little face. "Starting from tomorrow, you'll have to get up early in the morning, and lend grandma a helping hand in the garden for a week." Josie just couldn't resist her favorite desserts. She agreed with Matilda's deal and nodded her head.
As promised, Josie got up very early every morning and followed Matilda to her beautiful garden. Matilda knew little kids love stories. Therefore she puts up an idea, by teaching Josie some knowledges in a different kind of way. Both grandmother and grandchild were working very hard and having lots of fun taking care of the beautiful garden. And Matilda also taught Josie how to prepare delicious dishes in the kitchen. "Thank you Grandma, now i finally know vegetables aren't really so bad after all." Josie said to Matilda. Both of them looked at each other, with a pleasure smile on their faces
It was really an interesting experience for Josie but school is about to open soon and Josie has to leave with her parents. But she knew she would come back again some day.
School has begun, Josie got back into class and told everyone how she spent her holiday together with her grandmother Matilda at the countryside.
- THE END -
P.S. Thank you for reading, although it's not a very interesting story hehe =P
Once a little girl from far away country wanders through the river bed in search of fortune. There she comes across an old farm with lots of over growth and shrubs.
She remembered a story that she heard as a child and thought that this might have some treasure hidden beneath.
She wants to take all the treasure from the farm..
She search for some one in the nearby locality who can claim the farm thinking that if none is there she can claim it for herself. There in the middle of the overgrowth she finds some empty plots and a farm house where an old man lives.
The old man introduced himself as George and said that its his farm and he is too old now to work on that farm. He also told her that the farm has lots of treasures in it.
The girl started to clear the shrubs and on seeing the good soil George advices her to sow seeds since she can get some extra amount from selling the farm produce.
Once the farm started giving good revenue Rita the local reporter came to see that and wrote an article about the farm success.
On reading this Daniel an young business man with multiple interest came forward and helped the girl about how to improvise business skill and other stuffs.
Slowly the girl started earning good profit from the farm instead of selling grains and vegetable George told her to bring some farm animals. While she was things about which is the best animal to bring she saw an accident near the farm there is a good vet named Vicky who is collecting some feeds for the animals.
In addition to the feeds donation the girl adopted some animals and started building stables for them.
At one stage the animal dung has occupied a large space in her barn so she contacted Steve who suggested her to build a silo where this can be converted to fertilizers.
The girl thought of using the fertilizer to improve the production of field harvest and started producing a lot.
Alas it was not working as per plan, but there came Eva who lost her bees on chatting with her while delivering her bees our girl found that fertilizers can be used in orchards. So she build some orchard and with the help of Eva she improved them a lot and learnt the tit bits from her.
Even though her farm is successfully running she wanted some thing to improve prodcution of her fields.
With the farming experience she built a composter which converts the leaves from the orchards to humus.
She is happy since her farming knowledge has improved and she started experiments. Further she continued experiments like building nursery and all.
On seeing her farms success Matilda and Lily gave their farm also to the little girl and she learnt that the true treasure is the pleasure we get when people recognize our hard work
