Suggestion for architect building

I have a suggestion for a change to the way the architect works.

Currently you are only being able to add architect levels to buildings when Steve the Architect is visiting your farm. This is problematic in several ways - all of the following have to be true at the same time.
  • Steve the Architect has to be at your farm.
  • You have to have the farm dollars for the upgrade
  • the building you want to upgrade can't be busy
  • you can't be building or upgrading anything else on any of your farms.

Instead of requiring all this, I suggest that the Architect sell you "plans" or "blue prints" for the final architect level.
  • He will only sell plans for buildings that are currently at the penultimate level
  • The "upgrade" button on the menu of buildings just below Architect Level will only activate if you have the correct blueprint in your "equipment" inventory. (Edit: maybe you can buy plans for gold when the Architect isn't around?)
  • The plans cost the full upgrade price of the new level. (Edit: or maybe the plans cost $10,000 OR 10 gold (like land - you can buy with either), and the upgrade requires a set of plans, plus full current farm dollar price)
  • The upgrade itself is "free", but consumes one set of plans. (but see edit above)
  • The time for the upgrade would be the same as it is now.

This way, you can buy the plans when Steve is around, and then build "off the plans" once your builder and the building you want to upgrade are free.

That's not a bad idea; it'd really help with my current "build paralysis" problem. :)

I agree that getting Steve at exactly the right time is problematical, but I guess that's the way GGS designed it - to be very difficult to achieve the top levels of all buildings (unless of course, you are a gold user in which case you can skip all upgrades with gold and complete all top level buildings during his first visit). For the rest of us it is very hit and miss as to whether we can take advantage of his services.

So in order to fit in more with how GGS have designed it I would like to suggest a couple of amendments:
You can only hold one Blue Print at a time.
When the blue print is activated it still occupies the build slot for the length of the upgrade time (you probably inferred this anyway, but I thought I'd put it in writing).

Actually, I had that in there at the end of the post, but I moved the sentence into the bullet list to make it more clear.

I like the edit about buying the plans for $10K (or whatever). That way you also get time to save up for the upgrade as well.

You seem to be missing the point of the upgrades. When Steve comes you can buy gold, skip what you are currently working one, and proceed. The active part of the above statement is buy gold. The new upgrades are simply a way to keep bored gold players in the game and get the rest of us to buy gold.

What works well in empire would work well here. You have the option to add up to 2 extra builds in a queue that is purchased with gold that lasts a week at a time. That way when Steve shows up if you have something upgrading all you have to do is pay to open 1 or 2 extra building spots that will build the highest level that Steve allows and Goodgames wins and also the player wins. I would pay for this even when Steve is not there as some builds complete shortly after bedtime so you can have other upgrades in this slots to continue to build through the night and have them ready when are shortly after your daily log in.

I would LOVE to be able to put builds in a queue! So that it keeps going when you go to bed.
This getting up at 3am to farm is exhausting.

This is a great idea and I love the idea of having a queue option. I hope GGS looks at implementing both of these great ideas, especially since they already have one of them in the works in another game.

queue? now that sounds like an idea much more workable than trying to ask for more than one slot.
just as long as it is limited to only a single queue for a few reasonable reasons tho :)

the reason I think it should be a single queue is because like others have mentioned, this is a stragety game where you have to plan things out. so in this case the second queue part of the times could be used to manage time when having to be away during the day or just simply asleep at night (for example I could start a flower farm upgrade in evening then finally check back in as soon as I can in the following morning to see a different upgrade on gourment farm already underway...etc)
