Suggestion: Announce events
These times we knew they were coming because they were announced in the updates, and we can expect a new event to begin shortly after the update. Next time they will come around we will probably have no such warning, yet I think it is a very good idea if we would.
Since the events can be very intensive and time-consuming to finish, it would be nice if we could prepare ourselves for it. We might want to adjust the planning for our farm, within the cooperative or even in real life.
It's not very nice if the event starts and you find yourself without money to buy the limited decorations. Or you just started upgrading your cherry orchard and you get a task for it. Since you can't cancel upgrading or building, these situations can give you a very bad start and ruin the fun of the entire event as you have to rush to catch up with the lost time.
For cooperatives it would be very annoying if they started a project to collect something, and the event requires us to do something else (like corn for the coop and cabbage for the quest). It would really hinder progress for both of the tasks and cause many annoyances. Such as half of the people of the coop suddenly not helping anymore because they want to do the quest, dropping the burden on the other coopmembers to finish the project alone, who will now have an even bigger setback in starting their own quest.
People who log in less often might want to know an event is coming so they can play more actively during the event, while they could easily miss the first day or more of the event if they didn't know in advance, and have a hard time catching up. Some of us would even like to adjust our planning in real life, like freeing up the weekend.
Even for the people who do login a lot, it's still nice to be able to begin on time because you know it is coming, instead of missing the first hours or day because you last checked just before the event started.
Comments
I am sure that these events would come with a warning like the update warnings that we currently get. However I am not so sure that a 2 week warning is warranted. The game is run for those that play whether that be once a day once a week or several times a day. The events are for those that want something extra. So if you have a player that can only play 2 or 3 times a week, having a warning that a event is happening will not make any difference to that person.
This is just my own personal take on it though, and I could be wrong. I will pass this over to staff to look and think about.
I can see why you would want this, but it's not somethign we are going to add. The larger events are intended to be a challenge to complete. If we announced they were coming in advance, then people would have too much time to prepare (since all the requirements are already on the forum) and therefore complete some of the tasks far too easily. Yes, this would mean that maybe more players could get the rewards, but then the reward will not feel as special when you get it. The reward for the quest chain is so good because it does require a lot of work to earn it.

Ethan
2 weeks might be too long, I don't know. For me a few days or less is fine too, I am online quite a lot. I'm just saying that some warning would be very nice to get and I will leave it up to the team to discuss an appropriate time period.
*EDIT*
Even with a warning in advance like we got these first times, the events were still a lot of work to complete. Especially the fairy tale event cost me a lot of time, and I couldn't complete the camping one because I had to leave for a week near the end of the event. So I'm not afraid it will become too easy or lose the challenge at all. It would however prevent some major annoyances with the event/game/coop as described in the examples I provided.
If you are afraid of giving people too much time to prepare, you can make the announcement closer to the event. A few days, or even 1 day. Even without time to actually prepare (as in, stocking up on required items), it's nice to at least not miss the start of the event, or know you shouldn't start any new coop-projects or farm upgrades.
You can announce AN event is coming, but not which one, so people won't know exactly which tasks to expect beforehand.
Was the suggestion already passed on to the developers and rejected? Or was in never passed on/ still in consideration?
I have to say though that personally I don't think announcing them is necessary. I fit my farming into my life, I don't fit my life into my farming. I love my Big Farm but wouldn't get up earlier or change what I was going to do in my Real Life for Events. And especially as they seem to be going to be fairly regular. Every other Monday I think so far, since they were introduced
