Suggestion : Initiate/harvest multiple production facilities at once.

As I was in the middle or re-sowing my 6 fields it occured to me how nice it would be to be able to sow the crop once for all fields. Although I thought of it for fields, it could equally apply to all production facilities and for harvesting as well.

Utilising the standard Windows facilities to select multiple objects where Ctrl+click selects and adds one field, Shift+click selects and adds all fields. For sowing, the sow panel opens and once the player has selected the desired crop, it is sowed on all fields which have no crop. There's no point in Ctrl+click selection for harvesting, so Shift+click harvests everything for that particular type of prodcution facility. Perhaps we could also have a harvest everything option - Ctrl+click on anything requiring harvesting.

I've wondered if this might be done with hotkeys to get away from constant mouse use.

    Examples:
f selects all fields. Once selected, x to harvest (done) or s to sew, then c for corn.
f selects all fields, then tab will let you move through them to choose only 1, then h for humus

Learning hotkeys can be a little daunting at first, but once you get used to them, there are distinct advantages - fewer mis-clicks (although I suppose people could develop habitual hotkey patterns, too) and less chance of errors caused by shifting menu items.

    Great Comment!

I've have always wondered why cannot re-sow multiple fields at once with the same seed or harvest multiple fields at once. It seems like such a basic thing. The worst, of course, is having to replenish your corn supply or your wild flower supply for the flower farm. Because you cannot sow or harvest multiple fields at once, growing corn or wild flowers becomes one of the most tedious tasks in this simulation and every day I have to do it makes me wonder how it was that thought this was a good idea?

There are so many good things we can say about this simulation, which is why we play it. But there are some aspects of this game that make you scratch you head and wonder why???!!!

The inability to do multiple, repetitive tasks like sowing or harvesting multiple fields with the same crop is one of those aspects!

    Thank you :)

Yup, hotkeys would be good for me !

As for why we have to continue with the mind numbing, RSI inducing repetitive clicking, I wonder how much GGS's wish for player engagement is behind it. Perhaps one of the GGS people can explain ?

There are different stats involved in each field. Perhaps one is lvl 5 and the next is level 4 with varying quantities and startup costs.

I still think this is a good idea, just saying that would be a problem on selection screen.

An alternatuve Id be happy with is a renew process button. So if my field was just doing wheat it will harvest (sell if necessary) and replant the same crop. It would be nice to save so many buttonclicks as this topic is about mainly.

If you mean the Harvest icon and the number of units this could be changed to the total that all the fields would produce for the crop, or it could be removed as we don't need to know.

Programming wise it's just using the same decisions as would normally happen.

It's good to see some movement on this in the forthcoming Wednesday's update -
    • If you planted fields, it is now a "plant seeds last used" enter function! A new button in the pullout-circle menu shows you the seed that you have most recently used - thus filling the fields is now even faster.
