It's either 532, 533, or 534. Since you said it ends with 3, then it must be 533. My brother gave me this riddle once but it wasn't with sheep though, it was with bananas and camels. And it was along time ago.

    I've got 833 and a banging headache!

(I assume you don't have to make the journey all at once?)

Sorry Pinjo - I have no idea how that happened or how to delete it!

And the correct one is ..................... Smurf with 833!! 24_zpsrquk0gyh.gif

Well done Smurf, now you get to post the next riddle hehe

Here is how it is done for anyone that wants to know...

Ist you make 3 trips of 333km with 1000 sheep each (Tax is 999)
    = 2001 sheep & 667km left to travel.

2nd you make 2 trips of 500km with 1000 sheep each (Tax is 1000 + 1 sheep left behind)
    = 1000 sheep & 167km left to travel

3rd you make the final trip of 167km with 1000 sheep (Tax is 167)
= 833 Sheep left when you arrive in Wooltown

Let's blow some life in this thread again!
I give you something of historical and religious value:

Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it,
    Five in the middle is seen;
First of all figures, the first of all letters,
    Take up their stations between.
Join all together, and then you will bring
Before you the name of an eminent king.

It's not possible. Because numbers go on forever.

It is possible, in fact the answer is a surprisingly low number... I will help you out & tell you its lower than 50

Haha, I think it's 43. I would never have figured it out if you hadn't said lower than 50 though, this was a tuffie!

Yay! Here's one for you: rearrange the following words so that the first and fourth columns of letters spell out the names of 2 cheeses:

LAGOON ICICLE TARTAN NEGATE TARIFF OYSTER SECRET

    Stilton & ricotta
    SECRET
    TARIFF
    ICICLE
    LAGOON
    TARTAN
    OYSTER
    NEGATE

a shop keeper and a tradesman are discussing some work that the latter has done for the former. The shopkeeper uses a grammatically correct sentence containing the word "and" five times consecutively. What sort of shop was it?

A pub? If it was the Rose And Crown and the tradesman was a signmaker, the publican could ask that he put a bigger gap between Rose and And and And and Crown.

This is a classic one for you: There are 5 pirates, with 100 gold coins. They must decide how to distribute them. The rules are: That the most senior pirate should propose a distribution of coins. The pirates, including the proposer, then vote on whether to accept this distribution. In case of a tie vote the proposer has the casting vote. If the distribution is accepted, the coins are disbursed and the game ends. If not, the proposer is thrown overboard from the pirate ship and dies, and the next most senior pirate makes a new proposal to begin the system again. The following assumptions should be made: Each pirate wants to survive. Second, given survival, each pirate wants to maximize the number of gold coins he receives. Third, each pirate would prefer to throw another overboard, if all other results would otherwise be equal. Fourth: Each pirate is intelligent and rational. How are the coins distributed?

    Pirates #1 & #2 get thrown overboard.

    Pirate #3 proposes: #3=99 / #4=0 / #5=1

Since Pirate #5 will get nothing if #3 is thrown overboard, he agrees to this offer & the vote is 2-1 in favour of it.

    My brain hurts lol 8|

Nice try Scissors but not correct!

Hint: Start with the youngest and move towards the eldest.

Hmmm... If the 1st 2 got thrown overboard & this is a valid proposal for the 3rd one, I dunno why its wrong, so I'll have to give up. Cos #4 would obviously keep all the money himself & #5 wouldn`t get a turn.

The first 2 don't necessarily get thrown overboard....

As soon as I clicked send I had a rethink for #2... I forgot about his deciding vote ^^

    #2 = 98
    #3 = 0
    #4 = 0
    #5 =2

    No-one dies....

Also, given that this is quite a classic riddle, Google might be your friend...

Well I guessed you were saying #1 comes up with a proposal, I just can`t see what it is.

EDIT: lol @ suggestion to cheat... I`d rather give up hehe

Just thought maybe he could tempt #4 so I will have one more guess

    #1 = 96
    #2 = 0
    #3 = 0
    #4 = 1
    #5 = 3

I hope I get this correct.

    #1 = 98
    #2 = 0
    #3 = 1
    #4 = 0
    #5 = 1

Because #2 and #4 get the same amount and #3 and #5 get the same amount so they would all agree to it.( I guess? :S )
