Purely Profit

Hi all,

So I sat down and did the math, and (assuming I did it right), if you're looking for straight profit from your crops, here's how it breaks down. These numbers are based off a farm with a -42% running costs, and standard fields, so your mileage may vary.

Wildflowers sell for $1 per unit. You grow 15 at a time, and they cost nothing to plant.
They take 2 minutes to grow. So 15 X $1, -0, times 30 harvests per hour = $450 per hour.

Corn sells for $6 per unit. You grow 15 at a time, and they cost $52 to plant. They take 5 minutes to grow. So 15 X $6, - $52, times 12 harvest per hour = $456 per hour.

Cabbage sells for $5 per unit. You grow 40 at a time, and they cost $129 to plant. They take 45 minutes to grow. 40 X $5, - $129, times 1.33 harvest per hour = $95 per hour.

Wheat sells for $30 per unit. You grow 40 at a time, and they cost a whopping $746 to plant. They take 6 hours to grow. 40 X $30, -$746, times 0.167 harvest per hour = $76 per hour.

Again, this is a) assuming I ran the numbers right (feel free to correct if you see something wrong), and b) that you're only taking into consideration the sell value of the crops. Once you use those crops to make feed, and turn that into eggs, pigs, or milk, all bets are off.

Hope I did that right, and I'm not leading you astray!

-EDIT-

If anybody wants to run these numbers with higher level fields, just to see how things change, I think that'd be pretty neat. I don't expect Wildflowers or Corn to change much, but Cabbages and Wheat should be totally different.

    Heya Knaves,

I'm impressed that you took the time to work that out! As for your maths, I wouldn't have a clue as to how accurate you are or not and my brain is having a blonde day today so it all looks good to me! :D

My thanks to Knaves for starting this off. I have taken his figures and reworked them using 0 comfort to give a minimum profit. If anyone makes less than this then you need more comfort. More comfort equals more profit! Further I have worked out for all levels of fields and production sheds

    FIELDS
    Wild Flowers ($1) 2min/crop = 30 crops/hour
    Cost $0
    Profit/hr
    L1 15 x 1 x 30 = $450
    L2 16 x 1 x 30 = $480
    L3 17 x 1 x 30 = $510
    L4 18 x 1 x 30 = $540

    Corn ($6) 5 min/crop = 12 crops per hour
    Cost $58
    Profit/hr
    L1 15 x 6 = 90 - 58 = 32 x 12 = $344
    L2 16 x 6 = 96 - 58 = 38 x 12 = $456
    L3 17 x 6 = 102 - 58 = 44 x 12 = $528
    L4 18 x 6 = 108 - 58 = 50 x 12 = $600

    Cabbage ($5) 45 min/crop = 1.33crops per hour
    Cost $150
    Profit Profit/hr
    L1 40 x 5 = 200 - 150 = $50 x 1.33 = $66.5
    L2 41 x 5 = 205 - 150 = $55 x 1.33 = $73.15
    L3 49 x 5 = 245 - 150 = $95 x 1.33 = $126
    L4 50 x 5 = 250 - 150 = $100 x 1.33 = $133
    L5 59 x 5 = 295 - 150 = $145 x 1.33 = $172.9

    Wheat ($30) 6 hour crop
    Cost $1,000
    Profit Profit/hr
    L1 40 x 30 = 1200 - 1000 = $200 / 6 = $33.33
    L2 65 x 30 = 1815 - 1000 = $815 / 6 = $135.83
    L3 70 x 30 = 2100 - 1000 = $1100 / 6 = $183.33
    L4 90 x 30 = 2700 - 1000 = $1700 / 6 = $283.33
    L5 95 x 30 = 2850 - 1000 = $1850 / 6 = $308.33

    Apples ($44)
    Cost:- manure = 1290>production = 3070. Total $4360
    Profit
    L1 325 x 44 - 4360 = $ 9940
    L2 355 x 44 - 4360 = $11260
    L3 390 x 44 - 4360 = $12800
    L4 425 x 44 - 4360 = $14340
    L5 475 x 44 - 4360 = $16540

    PRODUCTION SHEDS
    Chickens ($3) 13min / shed = 4.6 / hour
    Costs:- 2 corn = $116> Feed = $24> production = $30. Total $170
    Profit Profit/hr
    L1 124 x 3 = 372 - 170 = $202 x 4.6 = $ 932.3
    L2 133 x 3 = 399 - 170 = $239 x 4.6 = $1099.4
    L3 145 x 3 = 435 - 170 = $265 x 4.6 = $1219
    L4 156 x 3 = 468 - 170 = $298 x 4.6 = $1370.8
    L5 166 x 3 = 498 - 170 = $328 x 4.6 = $1508.8

    Pigs ($5) 1 hr 10 mins / shed = .857 / hour
    Costs:- 2 cabbage = $160> feed = $87>production=$149. Total $396
    profit
    L1 130 x 5 = 650 - 396 = $254
    L2 140 x 5 = 700 - 396 = $304
    L3 150 x 5 = 750 - 396 = $354
    L4 155 x 5 = 775 - 396 = $379
    L5 160 x 5 = 800 - 396 = $404

    Cows => Milk ($25) 7 hours / shed
    Costs:- wheat = 2112>feed = 1850>production = 827. Total $4789
    Profit profit/hr
    L1 230 x 25 = 5750 - 4789 = $ 961 / 7 = $137
    L2 265 x 25 = 6625 - 4789 = $1836 / 7 = $262
    L3 290 x 25 = 7250 - 4789 = $2461 / 7 = $352
    L4 320 x 25 = 8000 - 4789 = $3211 / 7 = $459
    L5 345 x 25 = 8625 - 4789 = $3836 / 7 = $548

Comfort plays a big role in reducing you costs, the more you have the cheaper
things become and more profit. The water tower reduces the amount of feed and manure required by 10% up to 50% (i.e. L1 -L5)
I hope this helps to answer the questions relating to money and profit.

okay with all these number i am still trying to understand which of those things is good to grow and you dont lose money because the math i done i am losing money planting wheat and selling straight up after collecting it correct me if i am wrong

1.what is your happiness level, is the pointer in the green or the orange? Green is good, orange is bad. If bad you need to add more decorations to farm, this will increase happiness level. When you hover over it, with your cusor it will show you a set of numbers if the bottom line is negative, this is good because this is your reduction in costs.

    2. you can grow anything and make money, wildflowers cost nothing, take 2 minutes and give a small am ount of money. you can do 30 crops an hour. Wheat on the other hand costs you the most to plantand returns some money as a profit, but it is low and doesn't improve until you level up your fields.

After doing all that math, it is my considered opinion that the best way to start off in game is to get yourself up to 4 fields and 3 chicken co-ops, you grow 3 or 4 wildflowers per field , sell the wild flowers - this pays for your corn, plant corn and make feed for the chicken coops. Feed the chickens. Harvest and sell the eggs. Repeat the exercise - you will make money, I know because that is exactly what i did when I started last month.
Let me know if you need more answers.

i just noticed a calculator that shows on the screen when you are choosing WHICH crop to plant in a field.
it breaks down for seed cost, running costs, happiness. Not sure how long this feature has been available but those viewing this thread may find that the calculator will do the math for you.

First of all, You did a splendid job on the pricing breakdown for each animal and crop.

One note however: If you factor in the time it takes to reset the production each time, the amount produced will be slightly less. But overall this definitely keeps the profits in perspective.

    Very nice :)

Dont want to spoil the mood or being sour, but

    NEIL wrote under production sheds:
    Pigs ($5) 1 hr 10 mins / shed = .857 / hour
    Costs:- 2 cabbage = $160> feed = $87>production=$149. Total $396

here feed means producing feed, so: mill and production means feed animals, so shed Same goes for all animal sheds.
I found this confusing, since the games mousover when servicing a shed says "feed"

under FIELDS it says 1 crop cabbage cost $150. OK, but
under Production sheds Pigs it says 2 cabbage cost $160.

Under Production sheds Cows => Milk it says: feed = 1850>production = 827
number for feed,so: mill checks out but production, so:feed animals should be 1.142

    Hi,

I'd like to point out that I did the same calculations to figure out profit per hour and that does give you the maximum potential one can earn. However, that only holds true if you are there to continuously sow/mill/harvest. Most (if not all) people log-off at some point each day. Then that high profit corn/chicken feed/eggs path isn't as good as some of the seemingly lower profit paths like wheat/cow feed/milk. If you will be away for, let's say 8 hours, then one instance of milk production will be much more profitable than one instance of egg production in those 8 hours. The same goes for cherry versus apple production.

I would advise if you are looking only at pure profit, you should calculate for daily profit based on your habits of playing the game. If you don't spend much time actually logged in, you might find out that some of the longer productions are more profitable for you. But if you are able to spend some time logged in, then those quicker finishing, higher average profit/hour paths will be worth it.

My own practice for night time or prolonged absence during the day is to plant wheat, in the case of the resturant - cherry juice.

Houses bring your happiness down. You need enough decorations to put the happiness meter in the green, this brings your costs down so that you make a greater profit. You need to quit buying anything and work until you have enough money to buy land. Wildflowers and eggs are your best bet for now. When you buy land put decorations on it. Since your have 5 fields you might try missions that grow wild flowers or corn to raise money. Work hard and bring the happiness up; then it will get easier.

Very nice work, NEIL572. A comment and a suggestion. Apples take 3 hours to grow, so profit/hour is 1/3 the listed amount. Also, how about adding a section for cherries and/or more advanced crops? You know you want to. ;)

Any chance of one of the number crunchers out there doing the figures for the Cherry Orchard and the new Gourmet Farm (like Ironman asked too)?

I normally like to play a balanced game but sometimes I want some cash quick and it would be nice to know where to concentrate my efforts then

Instinctively I feel growing beet and making sugar cubes, but I don't yet have an almond orchard (it's what I'm trying to raise cash for right now) and no goats so I don't have a full picture yet

Since there was a request for cherry orchard numbers, here they are in NEIL572's format:

    Cherries ($180)
    Cost:- fertilizer 1285x3 + production 8750. Total $12605
    Profit
    L1 220 x 180 - 12605 = $26995 / 12hr = $2250 per hour
    L2 250 x 180 - 12605 = $32395 / 12hr = $2700 per hour
    L3 270 x 180 - 12605 = $35995 / 12hr = $3000 per hour
    L4 300 x 180 - 12605 = $41395 / 12hr = $3450 per hour
    L5 325 x 180 - 12605 = $45895 / 12hr = $3825 per hour

Also, for comparison here are the apple orchard amounts:

    Apples ($44)
    Cost:- manure = 1285 + production 3065. Total $4350
    Profit
    L1 325 x 44 - 4350 = $ 9950 / 3hr = $3317 per hour
    L2 355 x 44 - 4350 = $11270 / 3hr = $3757 per hour
    L3 390 x 44 - 4350 = $12810 / 3hr = $4270 per hour
    L4 425 x 44 - 4350 = $14350 / 3hr = $4783 per hour
    L5 475 x 44 - 4350 = $16550 / 3hr = $5517 per hour

Ok, so the numbers crunching is a nice piece of work and I am sure you guys will get it all figured out exactly soon. I didn't take the time to do all of that because I am a bit lazy. However, after getting burned on this, I did figure out pretty quickly that if you are looking to make some $, Apples beat Cherries any day for those who have not reached high enough levels to have a gourmet farm. Cherries require 30 fertilizer and net you roughly $37,600 for a 12 hour timeframe. Apples require only 10 fertilizer and have a shorter timeframe. realistically, if playing a full 12 hours, your apples should net you roughly $39,200 in 12 hours with time to spare. I say go the extra few minutes for resetting the orchards and get a 4th production in just over 12 hrs. This will give you a net profit of $52,300 for your apples.

Now, once a farmer has a gourmet farm, things change. I haven't worked out all the numbers or production times but it makes sense to me to use part of your apples or cherries for producing items in your restaurant and selling off the rest knowing that you will have a new bounty of goods by the time your restaurant is ready to sell its products.

All of you higher level farmers are more than welcome to correct any errors in my thinking. I could always use a more profitable way of doing things. :)
