Info Blast! - Handbooks and Booster Order

Hi Everyone!

Handbooks have been a hot topic this week in all of the forums and across the game. While there were some very good reasons for altering the booster system as the previous one was very difficult to develop and extend, we also see that many felt their Handbooks had been made less valuable by the change. Well, we want to improve that! The new booster order will remain for the reasons already mentioned, but what we are able to do for all of you is to raise the boost applied by the handbooks. This should serve to offset the differences you have seen since the change and bring your harvests back up to similar levels as previously. We are continuously monitoring the feedback we get from you all and it was clear in this case that we needed to make further improvements in this instance. The changes will come in the next 2 or 3 weeks for everyone! Thank you all for your thoughts and comments so far, your feedback was vital in this decision and we are very happy we can make this improvement.

Thanks all and happy farming!

Your Big Farm Team

  • Why was our product amount shortened when using the tractor?  We worked really hard to get our cows and chickens upgraded just to have our amounts lowered.  I know of 3 in our coop that have had it done.  I went from 840 per level 9 cowshed to 800.  The level 9 chickens went from 112 to 105.  We would like to know why this has happened.. On the cows I am getting less now than I did with my level 7.

  • Has nothing to do with the boosters.. It is the tractor.  When you put the tractor on the totals have gone down from what they were a week ago.
  • Yes - we are having the same issue - I am getting way less now on milk than a week ago - pigs also.  I too am getting less from a lvl 9 than I did from a lvl 7.  I 'think' (but cannot be 100% certain) thats its happening with and without the tractor, but need to test it thoroughly before I can be sure.

It appears that the books bonus used to be added after the tractor so it gave the bonus on everything, now they are being used before the tractor, so are only used on the base amount.

I'm totally confused by it all at the moment to be honest, as to what has been 'downgraded' (my word) 'rebalanced' (their word) but I do know I'm not happy - I spent real cash on buying gold to purchase the books and now we are not getting the full benefit of them - horrible - just horrible.

You didn't read the announcement closely enough. See below.

    Close, just backwards.

The book bonus used to be applied BEFORE the tractor, so you got the book bonus (Say, +80 Milk for a Level 4 Milk Book) + the 70% tractor bonus, making the book "worth" +136 milk.

Now the book bonus is applied AFTER the tractor, making the book bonus worth +80. That's a loss of 56 milk (when using the 70% tractor after the change).

You can still boost the book bonus with humus, but the other boosts (Tractor, charms & the new field bonuses), no longer stack on top of the book bonus.

The book still does exactly what it says it does though, it boosts the production by 80 milk, and can still be affected by Humus (or seaweed).

Thank you, I now take back all my head shaking regarding this issue and nod my head in approval instead.  This should make a lot of very happy players.

Oh, and you left comments open again so I thought I would let you know.   :)

    Thank you, Hunter!
  • This makes me so happy! I see it will take 2-3 weeks before we see improvement - but I'm happy right now!
I spent a good bit for my handbooks, so for them to suddenly be less effective was heartbreaking.
I keep looking for reasons to start buying gold again - this is a positive step in that direction!

Thank you CM_Hunter, and all who were involved in this decision.
  • Glad to see improvements being made,

Glad to see the survey, since improving handbooks will change the outcome of "untreated" buildings.

Although there was a flaw in the questions. I was confused how I should answer the feed part for the stage of my handbook for the feed I commonly use. I use premium feed and there is no handbook for that.

Confusing survey !! I shall just hold off buying anymore books or anything until the devs decide where or what they are doing with this game, as soon as we buy something etc they decide to change it.

What the heck are the "treats" they asked about?
I just said no, because I had no idea what it was.

I took it to mean "skins" (treatments?)

Oh boy - I took it to mean 'treats' like what we used to get from the Naughty/Nice Twins.
What we all in the game call Sparkles/Sparks/Gifts/Charms.

And, I'll ask again here, where were Level 8 & 9 Mayan handbooks ever available?
We were asked in the survey what the highest level of handbook we used and those were options given, but I thought Level 7 Mayan was the highest possible.

@Sheila NOLA Gal (US1) true, i though the highest books you could buy in the library were level 6, and when the "handbook architect" comes along (not sure if he is mayan or not, never seen him  :) ) you can buy level 7,i've never heard about level 8 OR 9.

LOL, it could very well have been "treats" from naughty and nice... just didn't seem to fit since I can't "treat" my own farm... whatever, the survey really wasn't very clear about a lot of things and probably useless since some of the questions I could have given more than one answer since some of it depended on when I might use "regular" or "premium" ... it really needed a clarification text box for some of the answers...

The survey just needed an 'average' view of what you use most often, we apologise if anything was unclear for you but it is limited in such a way to provide the the feedback our team needs to work on the boosters again and make some changes.

Treats refers to the treats/gifts given on the farm, some co-ops use these regularly to boost productions, some use them less often or in a more targeted way. What we are asking here is essentially, on average what do you use every day? If you don't have a gift on your field every day in general then you should answer no this one.

We appreciate the insights you guys are giving us! Every response helps so thank you for filling it in if you have already. Just try to answer to the best of your knowledge on your general setup. We know different items have different uses and you may only use certain items at specific times but to keep the survey from being too much of a beast we just need the average setup of the buildings stated in the survey.

    Thanks guys!

Personally I've always thought the boosts were out of balance with some things and killed incentive to upgrade. A good example of this is wildflowers. Each boost level gives about +10 to wildflowers but we only get +1 for each field upgrade. I would have designed boosters to add PER FIELD UPGRADE. So each booster level might give +2 per field level for wildflowers. This would give less at lower field levels but more at higher field levels, and would give an extra incentive to actually upgrade our fields. When you have a booster that just gives flat increases much more than from upgrading, what is the point of upgrading?

    Thanks for the clarification CM_Hunter.
I dispense sparkles everywhere almost every day, on both our co-op and my granddaughter's co-op.
I love to make the farms light up.
