Chat window time stamp

Anyone know where the the Chat window grabs it's time stamp data from?

I always assumed it was from your local computer time settings, but this is not the case.

I have a coop member who lives in CEST and their chat window shows one hour earlier than CEST.  I have another member in CEST whose chat does show CEST.    Thought the issue might be a local computer setting, so I tested on my system changing the time and the chat window times for me do not change - did all the usually reboot, logout, cache clearing procedures.

I had always assumed that it used the server time as shown at the top of the screen. None of our team living in Australia are on at the moment so I can't check that.

Definitely does not use the server time shown at the top of the screen.  I play on INT1, so the server time at the top of my screen shows CEST right now (CET once summer is over).  I live on the east coast of USA.  My chat shows EDT (Eastern Daylight Time - the summer adjust for Eastern Standard Time).

Thankyou @Lylu (INT1) I'd never thought about this before. I shall ask my Australians. See if I can work out what we are all seeing  :¬)

Edit - spoke to one of our Aussies, her chat shows 2:52  when mine shows 17:52  which are the two times showing on our respective computers but your experience suggests it ain't that simple at all   !!!  (perhaps I shall ask my son  lol)

The Chat window time is based on the Time Zone setting on your local computer.

If you change your time zone from "Eastern Time" to "Central Daylight Time", for instance, you'll notice the timestamps in the chat window all jump backwards an hour. (But the "Big Farm Time" clock at the top will NOT change. That's a constant.)

I thought this explanation was correct also, but when I tested it my chat window times did not change.  I even did the whole reload/clear caches routine after changing my machine time zone, still no change.  Does it work for you now.  Maybe something changed in the programming, or maybe something with the parallel Flash/HTML set up is causing an issue.

PS - I'm running in Flash only, and my coop-mate is in HTML but he tried switching back and forth between the two.

Yeah, I tested it before I posted.. I changed my Local Time Zone from Central Time to Eastern Time, and the chat stamps jumped backwards an hour. No reboot or reloading required, just had to close & reopen the chat window.

Using HTML version on Opera v55.0.

When I tried it on FLASH, I had to reload the game to get the timestamps to change, but they did as well.

@Lylu (INT1) you originally said "so I tested on my system changing the time". That is not the same as changing your Time Zone. Which did you do ?  (I strongly suspect that Southern has it right. He is a remarkably reliable chap (chapess ?) )

I was adjusting the time zone setting before, with no results.

However, I did go in and try to change things again, and now changing time zone changes chat time.

I also think I discovered why my CEST zone friend is showing 1 hour off, but i have to wait for them to be online to check.  I think maybe he has his 'automatic daylight savings' setting turned off. If I set to CEST and toggle that setting on and off my time varies by the hour.   I suspected something like this at first, but when I couldn't get the chat time to change when I changed my time zones on the first try, it caused me to think it might be something else.  Lesson = your first instincts are usually correct.

and thank you for sharing. I've sometimes wondered exactly who saw what times and why (but never bothered to dig into it) and now I know the answers  :¬)
