Green Grass instead of dirt - ⏳105

Why does my farm kill everything once it crosses the fence line?

My farm should be full of green life!

And yet, all around my farm I see grass, flowers, trees.

And upon my farm, except for my own deco trees and etc., I have a barren land of rocky earth and dirt more suited to the Horse Ranch theme. Why?

Could you please replace the nonliving dirt upon my farm with something alive and green?

Check out my awesome paint skills: lol

I was wondering the same thing. Why the inside land can't be like this? Found it on google some months ago.
     ?!?!?!?

@qewt (US1) Hahaha! There's a simple reason why there's no grass between your buildings on your farm. Your workers and your dog tramp back and forth over it 24 hours a day!  :D

I always thought the bare farmland looked like a brown-pebble aggregate terrace -- flat and hard as nails.

The problem should they introduce green ground covering is that there would be no way to distinguish it from the free-range skins they have now.  Maybe if they made the bare areas a little bumpy or something.  Of course, none of this would matter when your farms are filled. :)

I don't think that would be a problem @artful (US1) . a standard repeating pattern for each 10x10 square will be distinguishable enough, like you said maybe a couple bumps to catch the eye and make the pattern, I think grass patches, flowers, etc. maybe a shrub, would be fine.

  • @qewt (US1) I suspect FarmerJohn is correct & that it is meant to be more realistic, farms are usually a combination of mud & concrete from all the trampling & farm machines.

They do have this patchy surface in the carpark:

We could ask if they would use that one if you prefer it, as they already have it on file.

Hi WascallyWabbit, thank you for your idea! I had noticed that sprite before but didn't think to mention it. I do personally prefer the patchy grass sprite you have pointed out from the parking lot, to the dirt we currently have. If that change were to happen, I would be very happy with it!

Of course, I would really prefer the solid grass, but the sprite you pointed out looks very nice, and I see your point.

I like the idea of the farm ground being like the bit @WascallyWabbit showed, great idea too @qewt (US1) . :)

I like this as well, but if you could please ask if there's a way to delineate it from the free range skins, that would be great. I realize the two are different, but not so different that people might have trouble. It could be one hot mess
  • They could make the new grass a darker green than the free range is.

@artful (US1) , thank you for your interest, and I don't think that your concern is completely unwarranted, but I do think that you are inventing a problem where there isn't one.

Looking at the gif from my first comment to you, do you still think that it is hard to distinguish what is grass and what is a building of some kind? (that is with solid grass of the same color, let alone patchy grass of another color)

There is also the Western Duck Coop which does not blend in with the current dirt, so I don't see why it should be different for a Free Range Cow on grass?

Looking at the pic in the spoiler, do you think that person has trouble distinguishing one apple orchard from another?

I actually have a problem with your argument, that is that the free range skins are supposed to blend in, that is a selling point for them, if you put a cow next to an orchard next to a field they all blend in together, I would think that people with free range skins would WANT their buildings to blend into the environment better so that it looks more natural and overall better. I have a few free range skins and I know I would.

Read: anyway, taking White_Doves suggestion wouldn't be any more work, in that pic there are also many different colors of grass, the grass from the free range is very bright compared to the grass outside the fence line, now look at the grass up in the parking lot, it is even a third color, they do not even have to recolor the grass, it will already be a different color... What more would you do to distinguish one from the other?

The free-range skins are ALL grass. No buildings at all. And if one is playing on a small laptop or phone, it would be very hard to tell the difference. And it would be even harder for someone whose eyesight isn't 20/20.  Not every player is blessed with young eyes.

@artful (US1) That is not true, look at the buildings.

and like I said blending in is a selling point, for me and probably many others.

edit: I have poor eyesight as well, the snow was a problem, I don't think this would be though. If you really feel different that's fine, obviously, but what would you do to distinguish one from the other then?
