Voice chat - revolutionary game changer!

I'm recently been experimenting with a voice chat application for two coops I am in (two servers).

For the few who have participated so far it as been an eye-opener. To be able to play with other coop members while chatting directly has been revolutionary in immediate response to other member's farm needs.

I would love to see a in-built voice chat in the game and not rely on an external app; it makes the game so much more fun to have company while playing. Forget the chat boxes they were experimenting with on the test server, this would be much better!

Anyway, I recommend Discord which is completely free and better than some paid voice chats I hear.

It would be completely optional obviously. Those without mics or those that are afraid of offence or just don't like their voice being heard can opt out, they can always still text.

There is texting in Discord BTW. I had a situation where I was chatting directly with one of my coop members while they typed since they didn't have a mic and it was still fun. You can just listen in on the chat too and keep your mic off if you want.

While I kinda like the idea of a voice chat, I don't think its something that should be added to the game. If we want to voice chat with others we can discuss that individually & use another platform. Having voice chat in game could be a great thing but it also opens the door for not so great things such as people being nasty to others or adults targeting children. No one would be monitoring the chat so how would you prove any abusive behavior?

Some game developers or fan sites are using Discord now. You could have an administrator and moderators just like this forum. You can block and kick people out, and you can change the code used to access the voice chat.

As voice chat could make the company liable from a legal standpoint for whatever happens, the onus would be on them to regulate and monitor it, and that costs money. Plus, unless the sessions are recorded, there would be no way to prove abuse should it occur.

Nice idea, but probably better if those who are interested do as you've been doing.

It's easy enough to set up and the ones I've participated in were all free.

I had also considered a voice chat for my co-op members to join. Then I thought well maybe not everyone has a microphone or maybe they don't like chat programs. For those that would like such a chat program, they would use that all the time and ignore the in game chat. The members that do not want to use the voice chat would miss out on conversations and be left out in the cold. For that reason we do not have a voice chat and no plans to use one.

I'd opt right out of that.  Most of the time I have my music on and game sound off.

And there's the whole list of problems already mentioned.

Fix chat.   All it really needs are a few tweaks.
Speed for one thing…. it's SO SLOW now I have to use a text editor and just past in my type.
Or… hit one key…. wait…. another…. wait…. really slow.  (I type as fast as I can talk though, for me it's super slow.)

Move stuff like so-in-so donated to the fish pond somewhere else.  It's NOT really "chat."

Be nice if we could click right on a persons name in chat and go directly to their farm.  Rather than hunting them down in a list.  A few coops I'm in are huge.
But that's all it needs really.   Voice would only be a huge complication.  Gees GG can't get anything new right… this would be a nightmare.
