I'm not sure i explained that very well. maybe someone else can say it better.
Look at the time in your screenshots: without chums it's 2:15, with chums it's 1:44
The only reason I can think of for it is that when GGS wrote the description for chum - "can be used as bait to help attract and catch more fish" - they forgot to add PER HOUR to this little text...
The Fish caught rule/formula is :
Maximum fish caught by one boat in one trip will be the lesser of
a) "Fishing time of the boat" X "Fish per Hour loaded" X (1+Chum % loaded)
b) the boat's maximum capacity
c) the fish remaining in the pool when you sent the boat
---- example based on image above
a) without chum 2h45m X 45fph = 123 with chum 2h45m X 45fph X 1.60 = 198
b) 195
c) 101
so in both cases with or without chum the limiting factor is the amount of fish in the pool (101).
The only thing that changes the result of the above rule/formula is the use of Ghost Rod (sparkle) onto your boat. The bonus from Ghost Rods creates additional fish in the boat based on the the number that have been (or will be caught) using the rule/formula above. If a GR was applied to the boat in the example, it would catch 101 fish, but unload 126 fish when it returns to the dock. GRs can be applied at anytime before the boat is unloaded and still have effect (i.e. before you send the boat, while at the pool or once returned to dock).
At the moment, using storage items is not worthwhile generally and it means that the flexibility of the DSF has been reduced, in the good old days you could crew up your boats to suit your gameplay, using fishing time crew and storage if you were away from game doing real life stuff like working or sleeping ...
Chum gives your boat a speed bonus, the boat comes back faster but it will carry no extra fish.
Each type of chum gives a speed bonus on certain fish but not others. You should be selective on which chum you add depending on what type of fish is in the pool
Please remember that chum is expensive to produce, it might be a good idea to add an extra fisherman, so that you increase the number of fish / hour caught, rather than adding chum. Do that only if you really need to have that fish back very fast, as during the F-HWE, otherwise better save your resources and aim for higher profit

Hope this is what you needed.

I already know about holding down the shift key and then clicking the man/equipment you want to move into the boat but it sounds like you are describing another different shortcut that would eliminate the need to hold down the shift key during the process of selecting items to move into the boat.
hmmmm that only seems to work in the stand alone player. Let me look into this a little more I thought it worked on the others too.
Okay if you use Internet Explorer or the standalone flash player if you hold down Shift and ALT at the same time while using your mouse to click the stuff you want to man your boats with then the next boat you go to, you can just use your mouse. Sometime I have to do 2 boats before it works, but it sure saves time. Also you do have to do this each time you load the game but shouldn't have to if you are just going between farms.
@Ises (SKN1)
If you are using one of the other browsers and you don't want to have to drag your equipment you can just hold down the shift key and use your mouse to just click on the actual equipment you want to put in the boat. However you will have to do this everytime you man your boat. This is how you would have to do it if you were using chrome, opera or edge.

4) Fishing Time
be able to catch. NOTE: If fishing time is 1:30:00, and fish caught per hour is 6, then 6

3) Add coolers/freezers to your boat (to increase your capacity)
4) Add chum (to increase catch)
times "fish caught per hour," WHICHEVER IS THE SMALLEST. In other words, if you have a
capacity of 50 fish, and can catch 14 fish an hour for 6.5 hours for a total of 91 fish
(14 x 6.5), you will bring home only 50 fish, because that's all your boat can carry.
If you increase your capacity to 100 fish, with the same number of fish caught, then you
will bring home 91 fish. Always try to have your capacity be a little more than you can
catch so you're not wasting your fish.

fish! If you're going to catch 99 fish and only have capacity for 100, it doesn't make any
sense to use chum. If you're going to catch 90 fish and have capacity for 100, use one 10%
chum to bring your total catch to 99.
area (catch all of the fish available), then that area will disappear when your last ship
returns and give you a new fishing area. By "fishing out" each area, you will give yourself
extra areas to fish (and sooner!) every day, which will only increase the number of fish you
will be able to catch!

A couple of things you may be confused on
"NOTE: If you add chum to your boat, make sure that you have enough capacity to hold the extra fish! If you're going to catch 99 fish and only have capacity for 100, it doesn't make any sense to use chum. If you're going to catch 90 fish and have capacity for 100, use one 10% chum to bring your total catch to 99."
- Chum does NOT increase the amount of fish caught - only speeds up the fish caught per hour. The only way to increase the amount of fish caught is with a rod/gift
Avoid coolers as they are very expensive. I have found that by using only TS & FCPH crews for the ships, not only costs about half as it would if you added coolers. You can actually bring in more fish a day.
If I add a "boat load" of deck hands that increase my fish/h count, but don't increase my capacity, I have to send a boat back to "fish out" that spot because I couldn't catch all of the fish with the first four boats I sent. Now I'm spending even MORE money on deck hands, and I'm losing time because I didn't wipe out the fish on my first visit.
I see that chum speeds up the number of fish caught per hour, but exactly what does that mean? Does it shorten the fishing trip? Catching fish "faster" doesn't help me if the boat still sits there for 6 hours whether it catches it's limit in 30 minutes or takes the whole 6 hours to do so.
Also, I can't figure out how to determine the length of the fishing trip prior to sending it out. If I could tell how long the round trip would be BEFORE I send it out, it would help me decide which spots are worth fishing. In other words, if a spot is active for 6 more hours, but it's gonna take my boat(s) 7 hours to get back, it's better to wait for the spot to expire instead of having a boat unavailable for an hour (or more!) past the spot's active time.
