Lobsters and salmon are rarely found in contracts,it has been like this since the great fishing nerf . However , they make decent dollars sold direct so I don't worry about it too much .
Shellfish tend to be the limiting factor in most contracts , best bet is to build a stock up , because contracts have a tendency to ask for what you have not got in stock , worth 20-30% I think .
Fishing still makes lots of dollars, I get 25-35 million dollars on a full days fishing , so work them boats hard .... :):):)

WHY DOES EVERY CONTRACT WANT SHELLFISH??? and I mean every contract... I am all for the rebalancing etc... and waiting for the update that is to come... etc.  Still why does every contact I get want shellfish? I have to decline them constantly and hope for ONE contract with no shellfish..  anyway.. I fish on, eventually I will complete a contract!

Today I find I have 5 lobster pools and guess what, I do not need any lobsters for contracts. SORT IT OUT, this game is getting [Bad language removed] stupid now.
I fear that the problem is your expectations.
Contracts are not intended to be the only way we sell stock, they are the icing on the cake. Most of what we catch will need to be sold straight from inventory (and from which I earn many millions a week)

    Very correct uncle john
You have to look at those contracts like a savingaccount. I sell all my fish 1time a week and those contracts i take a look maybe 1 time a day. Money to be made. But it is a game for the long haul and so are the contracts. When you have your fleet at level 6 mainly trawlers and a few skipjacks to clean out the pools you will earn more than you think and also the contracts goes faster.  I have now for 145 million of fish ready to be sold And 3492 Rare filets from the Mermaidbay restaurant. And i am not thinking to sell anything before x-mas. That is my gift this year.

And look at the crazybigfarm page for tips about that fishing and everything else on the farm

I've found that once I got my 1-item contracts (those contracts that only ask for 1 type of fish) up to Level 99, the shellfish requirement drops way off. And once you hit Level 99, like organic contracts, you can start declining them without the bonus level dropping.  So if I *do* get a Level 99 (1-item) contract for shellfish, I just decline it and wait for another one. :)

Right now I've got 4 contracts:

The 2 at Level 99 (1-item contracts) don't want Shellfish, the 2 at Level 76 & 78 do. Still working on getting those 2-item contracts up to Level 99, so I try not to turn those down if I can help it, because then I lose a Level or two on those contracts and I have to work them up again.. Of course I turn down EVERY 3, 4, 5 & 6 item contract no matter WHAT they want, so they're all at 0 bonus.

It's working pretty well for me.  I still VERY rarely get Lobster contracts though; but Swordfish, Cod, Tuna, Salmon.. I can't keep them in stock hardly.  I've almost worked through my entire inventory (except for Lobster). I probably turn down 25-30 contracts a day looking for the "Good" 1 & 2 item ones.

And that 25% bonus at Level 99 really helps.

You want to be careful even though your fish contracts are at level 99 they will drop if you decline too many. I have had my 1 item contracts at 99 for a very long time now and mine did drop. Make sure you don't decline too many more than you fill :)

I am using a different strategy, filling all contracts regardless of type, although those that need silly amounts of shellfish get dumped , and those with too many"valuable rewards " . Across the 12 types of contract (1-6 items , limited or not limited ) my market level is 85-95 . This means I make almost full bonus on more fish , I think .
Probably  there is not an only way to do it, play it the way it suits you .
I am convinced that the market has a built-in factor that increases the demand for what you have least of in stock , if you are getting heavy shellfish demand, then build a good stock, and keep your shellfish stock higher than the other fish, I clear all 6 contracts at once, and sell all surplus fish except for the shellfish .Over the last 9 months , I have sold much more tuna and herring than shellfish in contracts .Lobsters and salmon are rarely seen however .
Regardless of your market strategy, the harder you fish, the faster the pools change and the better the chance of getting the fish type you need , so work those boats hard , Happy Fishing ... :):):)

best thing about a 1 fish contract are lester as it will earn money
  • JVD (US1)JVD (US1) US1 Posts: 2,784
@Southern (US1)  Thank you!!! I have declined contracts, but not enough... Hate to decline ones with good numbers, but I am getting no where... I have changed my attitude and declining all except the one and two item contracts (and an occasional 3 item) to get my bonus up to lvl 99 on the 1/2 item contracts and things are actually going better in just this short time! :)
  • How does the dockyard work?  I don't seem to be able to do anything on it.

You will have to finish all of Oleg's fishing task before you may use the Dockyard. Here is a list of the task...

Today. One of two contracts received today calling for lobster.  I seem to get them about once a month, and some don't get them at all.  Maybe they're tweaking the contracts a bit.

Value 99 will drop after too many declining of them.
    Type 2 shouldn't be done ....

Dsf rework will remove type 1 contracts completely, I have a strong feeling.

I think this contract is totally nuts and I will be declining it.  I haven't done the numbers but it seems I won't make anything on it?  Check out how many chum this thing wants for over 5 mil.  Even if it makes money I am not inclined to make that much chum to complete the contract.  Even for 10,000 fxp.

    313 Shrimp @ $2,625 each ($821,625)
    179 Oysters @ $3,675 each ($657,825)
    179 Clams @ $3,150 each ($563,850)
    265 Tuna @ $6,825 each ($1,808,625)
    342 Chum @ $5,250 each ($1,795,500)

    Total: $5,647,425

You lose $100,000 off the cash value of the contract because of the 10,000FXP, so that would put the total at $5,547,425.

Compare the prices above to the DIRECT SALE prices, and you'll see that the contract is worth far more than the individual sales prices. (I.E., Shrimp is $1,000 each in direct sale, but you're getting $2,625 each in the contract).

As far as the chum goes, it's worth $5,250 each in contract.  You can make 5 of them with 1 swordfish (Contract Value: $16,800 each), so the chum would "cost" you 69 swordfish (Contract Value: $1,159,200), so it's still profitable. (Not to mention all the FXP you get from making the chum in the first place).

I was just going to say that this looks like a really good contract to me. I make a lot of chum during the WWC, so that part would be easy peasy for me.

@Southern (US1) AND @artful (US1)  Thanks for the input.  Contracts really confuse me.  How do you come up with those numbers on the contract for each individual item @Southern (US1) ?   And for both of you is there another fish to use for chum than swordfish?  Those are what $5,000 each on direct sell value?  Isn't there something that would be better to use for so many required chum?  I haven't deleted that contract yet.  Suzy!

    Edit to add:
Okay, I just got it, 5 chum for 1 swordfish so I can see where that is the better fish to use for chum now.  Looks like I am in for a very long contract to fill, lol.  I will give it a try, and 24,000 FXP to make 5 chum was really great too.  Suzy!

A chart was created (← link to thread) with a collaborative effort from myself, @Griffith (INT1), Surya54 (INT1), Shay1968 (US1), KarenKay (US1), PCA (GB1), george2558 (AU1) and others, where we sussed out the contract values one by one.

@CrazyBigFarm55 (US1) has a copy of it on her site at http://crazybigfarm.tk/farm/fish_market.htm at the bottom of the page.

Might be worth looking at if you are ever curious about how many more farm dollars your fish are worth in contracts vs. direct sale. :)

During the day, I make regular chum using swordfish. Overnight, I make tuna chum. I only make chum during the WWC for the points, and that seems to give me enough for contracts. Some contracts call for Herring chum, which I win during the WWC. I don't make chum to sell outright.

If I do run short of chum, I just chill and fill that particular contract when I have the chum ready to go. I play a little differently than some as I just fill contracts in their own sweet time. It's getting easier now that I'm all "trawlered up." :)

I reckon to use Lobsters for chum, slightly less cost efficient but I have such a surplus !!    :¬)

Oh, I sell my lobster surplus directly. Good profits.

I make lobster chum continuously... have to get rid of them somehow! Overnight I usually make tuna. Don't have much call for the others at this point.
