Swordfish Pools

Has anyone else noticed a distinct lack of swordfish pools or is just me?  In the space of about 8 days I've only had one pool and I have contracts crying out for them.  It really does appear that when all the contracts require a certain type of fish the chances of catching them decrease.

  • Had tuna and lobster only for 2 days  finally got a swordfish and shellfish pool added
If it's needed for contracts it's going to be rare

  • I haven't played this game for long, but the first thing I noticed that what ever you have little or none of is in every contract, what ever you have overflowing is not in any contract.  You can ramp up production but that only makes the next contracts have none.  I had all 6 contracts wanting tons of apples, I put down my two coop apple orchards and produced on all 3, then no apples just eggs, put down 2 more chicken coops for a total of 4 and now not even one contract needs eggs. Now they all want peaches and cherries but I am not biting, just delete the ones I don't like

  • Out of the 6 pools I continually have lobsters in 4 of them which I do not need. One pool normally has a few shell fish which go nowhere near to completing any contract within a week. Another pool has Herring and Tuna. So what are all my contracts asking for? Yep Swordfish, Samon and Cod plus a mountain of shellfish. Been like this for days now. Getting rather annoyed with this game. There are 6 pools so why put the same product in 4 of them. Get it sorted or I walk.

Comes in waves for me.  I won't have any for a week, then nothing but.

You will find that the 4 types of fishing pool come in bursts, I like to think of them as "seasons" . There are also random generations as well . The length of the "seasons" vary, shellfish season being very short, a couple of hours , lobsters seem to hang about for days . During the season, the pools have an increased chance of a certain type of fish , but it is not guaranteed .

Basically , the harder you fish, the quicker you empty pools so the better chance of getting the fish you need .
I also find the fish Market is biased to want more of what you do not have , so if you are stuck on shellfish for contracts, build up a stock before you complete your contracts , and it will ask for less . I actually sell more tuna and herring than shellfish now .
  • Now it is getting really stupid with all 6 pools having lobsters and not one contract needs them. Total waste of 14 top level trawlers. How does one complete contracts with nothing to catch in any pools. Might as well stop fishing alltogether. Get it sorted Big Game people.

I had that problem during the FHWE. Everywhere I looked were lobsters. Now I am having the problems with swordfish and once you delete those contracts and the ones that need shellfish you'll find there's not enough salmon to keep up. It's like chasing your tail. Until they fix the contracts there's nothing worth doing except selling items outright.

Contracts are just icing on the cake. Catch fish, sell them, the profit is enormous. I know it would be nice to put them all on contracts but that is not how it is supposed to work

Yep. Contracts aren't the main goal.

If you carefully manage the contracts, you can use all the fish except for lobsters in them. Using one-item contracts and accepting low amounts for shrimp, clam and oyster amounts helps keep your contract value high. Lester's secret stash can also help increase your profits.

For some reason I have been receiving an enormous number of salmon contracts recently. I can't keep up the supply for them but I have started receiving others again like tuna and cod so it is still working well.

Fortunately, there is no limit on the number you can store.  I delete more contracts than I fill... getting to the ones w/ lower requirements for those hard to catch fish. Sometimes I don't fill any contracts for a week, then hit a good group and fill 6 in a day.

@DebRN (US1) I agree with you 100%. A person must be ruthless when it comes to deleting contracts. Contracts should fit your current fishing capabilities and not what the contract demands.

How can I increase the yield of clams, shrimp, or oysters. I have level 65 fishing exp. It seems sometimes the trawler gives me better yields for shrimp. I get about 5-10 clams / oysters per fishing trip per runabout or motorboat. Can not seem to fulfill my contracts for clams so easily. Most often need to do like 15....... or more fishing trips. Also not much of a change when I upgrade my motorboats. Clams and oysters very difficult to obtain especially when the pools disappear frequently.

You're going about it the right way. Just keep emptying those shell fish pools as often as you can. After a few dozen emptyies it starts to gain more shell fish. Yes it takes a long time to build up the shell fish pools but it can be done. Watch the type of crews you use to do yur fishing. One only needs 2 types of crew per type of ship. Stick with T.S. & F.C.P.H crews for your ship. Quick & cheap ;)

There's not much you can do. Try to use trawlers to clear fish pools (particularly those ones) as frequently as possible so you can get more of those pools to appear.

Also when you get your contract quality to level 99 (it's a good idea to only accept 1 item contracts and to decline 2+ item contracts to make it easier to manage the fish) try to only accept contracts that ask for 2k or less of the fish. It will help you keep your contract quality high to help you get a good profit from the other contracts.
  • Is there a "table" somewhere that describes the kind of items needed to stock a boat when you set out to catch a particular type of fish?

    1. i will say this if your goal is to make money sell fish outright
    2. if you want to max out contracts to 99 you have to be patient you will get there
    3. pools only spawn faster the quicker you can catch all the fish in pool

in the beginning i had trouble with the same problem but eventually waiting to get my first skipjack boat i was able to get alot more fish and now having trawlers even at lvl 1 i grab 102 fish from the pools (with each boat) and have a constant flow of good spawns  my contracts are all at lvl 55 at the moment but remember i play this thing like i have no life so easy for me to say this unlike ppl who just come on and play for about 4 hrs im also lvl 116

one more thing when you think its been a long time for FHWE my trick is to always have 4 trawlers and 1 skipjack with only HERRING on board and wait for FHWE NEVER CLICK ON THEM leave the boats dead this way you hit 10 and you can fish for what you may be lacking granted i do go down the list but i get the pools to spawn what i need

there are a big difference in crewcost/fish beween trawlers and shipjacks... on normal crew no deadloss its a difference of 285 bucks a fish... if both lvl 6

and no selling fish outright should only be done if u need cash market pays atleast 3 times if used somewhat right
