Hi everyone!

It's time for a new update so let's take a dive into what's in-store!

Deep Sea Adjustments

All you budding captains have enjoyed the Deep Sea fishing feature so far, with a plethora of different fish to catch and a variety of fine vessels to sail on.

Since the conception of this feature the intention was to include a market dedicated to the crustacea and marine life of the Big Farm world that would allow you to exchange your deep sea fishing products for fantastic and rare items.

The creation of the market took longer than expected, in the meantime you have had the chance to farm the seven seas and get more dollars for your farm. Even though a solid game experience for all our players is our main goal, this possibility appeared to be making your game progression too fast, thus damaging the rewarding feeling we expected, that always depends on a certain level of challenge.

As you all know, it’s important for a complex game like Big Farm to have a balanced economy, progression and challenge to match the overall gameplay and the direct selling of deep sea fishing products would cause harm to this balance in the long run, and thus these changes are necessary. It was a great bonus for a while to get these extra dollars and many of you have put it to good use, upgrading parts of your farms and expanding them but this also took much of the challenge away from this process and in the long term this can become stagnant. The adjustments described will aid in re-balancing the situation and we feel that it is better to implement those changes now, instead of being forced to change them after a couple of months when the issue is more pronounced.

Deep Sea Market

The Deep Sea market will work in a similar way to the Organic Markets and will be available in the Deep Sea Fishing Region and the dock on the Flower Farm.

  • In the Deep Sea market you will find contracts requesting Deep Sea fish and chum. and the 4 products from the Mermaid Bay made from Deep Sea fish
  • These contracts will work similarly to the contracts of the Organic Markets - fulfill the contract requirements to obtain the reward
  • The rewards for completing these contracts could be dollars, farm products or other farm items and collectibles, but all contracts will at least feature non-dollar farm items. Additionally, some contracts may reward you with rare items such as Wheel of Fortune coins, Shinkei Suijaku tokens and Mystery Boxes to name a few
  • The possibility to directly sell chum and Deep Sea fish will be removed
  • You can still sell normal fish and the Mermaid Bay’s products like before

Additional Deep Sea Fishing and Oleg changes

  • Fishing equipment from the fishing supply store will now be displayed so that dollar and gold variations of items are placed together on the same page
  • The boat travelling times in the Deep Sea Fishing Region will be increased.
  • A delete button was added to Deep Sea fishing equipment
  • An equipment button has been added to the deployment window, to allow you to go directly to equip your selected boat.

Comments

  • Hello everyone,

Despite some comments to the opposite effect we here at GGS have been looking through your feedback and our wonderful mod team has been tirelessly bringing your thoughts and feedback to our attention. We have additionally been keeping track of the discussions that have been going on surrounding this recent update and though we know some of you have been disillusioned we do take your feedback on board and it is very important to us that we know what you think about the game.

It is correct that the current implementation of Deep Sea Fishing will not be altered at this stage and we feel perhaps it was not sufficiently explained as to why there has been such a reduction in terms of direct Farm Dollar rewards. The amount of dollar rewards available as a temporary effect was not an issue but if this were continuous it would have had a negative effect on your game and your enjoyment of it (though we know this can be hard to see in the short term). While it was very nice to have the currency you needed to expand your farms and upgrade buildings at a fast rate this would in time have destroyed any long-term challenge. Many features of the game are not designed to be unlocked straight away but built up over time; imagine a puzzle game where all the solutions are pre-filled for you, a gem matching game where all levels are complete with minimal effort. While it is very challenging and takes a long time to reach certain features this is all part of the challenge and flow of a game, and continuing to provide dollars in the amounts they were available would destroy the in-game economy and the game flow over time. We want you to enjoy the game of course but in the long-term the fishing as it was previously would have caused far more damage than good over long periods.

Some of you were able to see this was the case as evidenced by some of your comments but are unhappy about not being able to sell your fish. There is no ability to sell fish directly and this feature will not return to the game but there are many other suggestions and pieces of feedback that we are discussing which could serve to alleviate many of the issues you have brought up. One example of this is the current rewards you are seeing for the contracts, these are being analysed and discussed and may be altered if it is deemed necessary. They will not be on the same level as you were previously getting for selling your fish, at least in terms of the direct dollar amounts received, but there are discussions ongoing about the kinds of feedback we can implement to alleviate some of your concerns and bring you features that are a combination of challenge and fun.

Here is an example of what some contracts look like with a maxed out market. Please keep in mind there are different possibilities and rewards as well.

We would also like to apologise for the community team’s lack of response up until now, the moderators have received many comments directly and these really should have been directed towards us and not them. They have been doing a fantastic job of trying to keep up-to-date with all your comments and we ask that you understand in many cases they share your opinions and feelings but still have a duty to maintain the rules and procedures of the forums. Patch notes that are posted by the moderators are not written by them directly so please bear this in mind, their job is to help you all where they can and where they cannot they provide us with your feedback so it can be looked at.

    Best Regards,
    Your Community Team

ETA: To be clear, the announcement was intended to inform you all that changes are coming and discussions are being had over exactly what changes will be made. It was not our intent to imply no changes would be made, only that we cannot provide specific details about what they are just at the moment. We apologise if this was unclear previously.

    Dear Community,

We in the community management department would like to present you with some of the discussion we have had internally in relation to the recent Deep Sea fishing changes. It was clear that it was not possible to continue to provide such high dollar amounts as rewards for this feature but in making the changes that were made we can also see the backlash from the community and room for adjustment and optimisation of this feature. We would like to apologise for our perceived lack of action in this situation, the community reaction was so strong that making any statement became difficult as there were and still are many opinions from you all coming in thick and fast. We thank the moderators for bringing your thoughts and ideas to our attention and we also kept an eye on as much of the communication between you all as was possible. As a result the community and game teams have met to discuss the situation and while we cannot provide highly specific information we can at least inform you of the current discussion and let you know more about the future of  Deep Sea fishing.

Firstly we would like to thank you all for your suggestions, ideas and passionate statements. While many of you are angry about the changes that were made there were also many comments that contained suggestions and ideas as to how we could  improve the situation that were invaluable in the discussion. Your passion as a community is commendable and even at times when you feel the way you have this past week you are still providing us with vital feedback and ideas.

    Contracts
Many of you have said that the contracts do not provide much value and are therefore not very attractive to you, not just in comparison to the extremely high earning potential that was previously possible but also in regard to the cost of catching the fish required for the contracts. While this improves in later contract levels we recognise that the current rewards and requirements, particularly in lower level contracts are not appealing and so these will be analysed by the game team in the hopes that we can make some alterations to provide a smoother progression in the development of contract levels and a faster pace of development.

    Direct selling
While it is not possible to provide the dollar rewards to players as they previously were we also recognise your desire to choose how you play the game. It is therefore possible that the direct sales of fish could make a return in future, but please bear in mind that this is not confirmed and that sell values will be considerably lower than previously if direct selling does make a comeback.

    Ponds, times, equipment
As many of you are aware the fishing spots were also rebalanced to provide high value fish less often than before. We truly apologise for not including this in the original announcement, it was not our intent to conceal this fact from you and it was an error on our part that the information was not included and not therefore down to the moderators. While the current balance is not likely to be changed many alternatives were discussed to this situation and they are being evaluated as to the best fit and implementation. Fishing times, chum production times and equipment costs are also unlikely to change but, as with the balance of the fishing spots, alternatives have been and are being discussed.

We hope to create a more unified and consistent experience, not just within Deep Sea Fishing but across the entire game. While specific alterations will be mentioned in patch notes and will not come immediately we assure you that Deep Sea Fishing is a key point of discussion.

Thank you for your time, patience and most of all your passion!

    Your Community Management Team
