I'm gonna comment on this feature as if we never had the dockyard, as you stated that you intended it to be from the beginning: the fish market to sell products from the dockyard.

    Fishing market:
I like the organic market. I like it because you can sell your items for a higher price + a benefit depending on your contract level. If I had limitless storage I would only sell my products though the market  (except when I would run out of cash) so in that sense it is not a big issue for me that we cannot sell the fish directly. However that only applies if the contracts are good.

In the fishing market the first contracts are not so good (the higher contracts we will see). While for some players it is nice that you offer the possibility of buying the rakes, brushes and karma points for cash (before only affordable with gold and I know of players that buy them), for others, specially those without coop, these items are pointless. I think the contracts need to be changed to contain items that all players can be interested in. I'm not saying to remove the current contracts, just offer more choices. For example, in the organic market I reject all contracts that have xp, pretty much because it is not an item that interests me and I do not want to buy xp. However, I'm very happy with contracts that sell horseshoes. Of course for those that do not play horses those contracts are pointless. However for everybody cash only contracts are good. If you do not want to have cash only contracts, you have work to do to find contracts with better items.

One extra suggestion: How about neighbours visiting the fish market as well? I would like that. The price of the fishes can and should be lowered to respect what was before to get to that equilibrium we are all looking for. I think @Meela and co have (a lot of) work to do.

    Dockyard:
If I would have never seen the dockyard I would have not issue with the travelling times to the fishing regions, but I would have an issue with the spaning rate of the different fishing spots as well as with disproportionate amount of the ratios of the fishes. This needs fixing.

Now going back to the current situation:
I just want to say that one of my biggest issues with the game has always been its slow progression: it gets extremely boring. It takes me about a month to save enough cash to buy a plot of land. With the dockyard this swept to the completely opposite extreme: I could buy a plot of land per day. I don't think that neither one extreme nor the other one were good: while in the first I get bored because it takes too long, in the second I might progress faster than you can get newer content and get bored again, as you state. The virtue is in the middle, not in the extremes. However, don't leave the game as it was before the dockyard, reduce the money you get. I must say letting the players to get more income is good. At least in my case, the money earned allowed me to take part in many more events and thus make the game more interesting (and if players are interested, players will support the game, so a win-win situation). For example, I was so close to get all the hardworker rewards from the island during the WWC that I was planning to gradually buy all the temp farm books and spend some gold in the temp islands, but if it now takes me 3 months (or more) of saving up while rejecting my "normal" farms, I think I'm going to pass trying to play a temp farm indefinitely or at least in a very long time.

Reading the forum lately it is very sad. Seeing all that anger and frustration, feeling that the game I enjoy has its days counted is not a very encouraging, so I wish we can arrive to a solution that both players and GGS are happy with. I have hope.

Edit: Also if you release a feature before is finished do let people know. I think most of the rage comes from the fact that people feel tricked by the fact you "concealed" important (game changing) information.

DAY 4  96 HOURS  Still no fishing for Lobsters, Cod, Salmon and Swordfish.  All I have is Tuna/Herring and Shellfish.  Dear GGS how can I fill orders at the fish market without these fish?  And "YES" I am getting orders for fish other than shellfish and tuna.   Please explain the purpose of this. Just an explanation would be great. No some vague email from CS telling me the pools refresh every 24 hours.
    =============================================================================

BigFarm says they're worried about long term challenge - but something just struck me.  Millions of people have been playing Solitaire for hundreds and hundreds of years.  Where's the long term challenge in Solitaire?  Yet we play it generation after generation after generation.  I think there must be some misunderstanding here of why people play games.

    Edited to add:
Now that I think about it, where was the long term challenge in BigFarm after I got my farms up to making $10-$15 million a day?  I'd built up a billion dollars in my bank account long before Deep Sea came along.  Why did I keep on playing?  Surely I must have been bored out of my skull.  But somehow I wasn't.

Yes, I definitely think there's misunderstanding of why people play games and what they like about them.
The misunderstanding was on our part, people were making lots of igc and using it for upgrades and stuff instead of buying/using gold like before, so, the way I see GGS's logic is only the gold buyers can max out the game and not get bored or ruin the integrity of the game, but those spending igc well...
  • Now that I cannot sell deep sea fish, I won't deep sea fish at all anymore. I don't have the money saved to upgrade mermaid to the point where it makes sense to deep sea fish - even though I LOVED the concept - it makes no sense to catch fish I cannot use at all. My 4 boats will sit idle.

I'm in the same boat. And explanation is probably simple, as usual. They nerfed too many things and completely messed up the whole DSF area. As that's what GGS is best at - messing things up. And as mods said we have to wait till Monday to get the mess sorted - if at all.

The misunderstanding was on our part, people were making lots of igc and using it for upgrades and stuff instead of buying/using gold like before, so, the way I see GGS's logic is only the gold buyers can max out the game and not get bored or ruin the integrity of the game, but those spending igc well...
I had similar thoughts. When I realised soon after DSF was launched that it completely destroyed farming economy balance, I still was not sure how to handle it as this has been here all the time. The only thing that changed was that previously the spoil was available using gold, then it was available using dollars also. Now it obviously shows how we need to read GGS statements. They were not in the least bothered about spoiled balance and game play when it was using gold. They only started to worry when the same was achieved using dollars. I don't think I need to be any more explicit as the fact itself is explicit enough.

Now although I saw the fish dollar fllood as a spoiler of a kind, I do admit that the game was a sort of more playable and kind of enjoyable with that. The disbalance was already there due to expensive buildings like Stash, Lab and School plus Village nonsense (maybe include temp farms also and some other stuff like last levels of Flower shop etc.), and DSF seemed to have sort of fixed it. Now after the nerf we have basic farming balance sort of restored, just the DSF is no longe very interesting additon to the game.

In general this thread is overwhelming. I'd have so many things to say to it to support most of the complaints posted here but don't want to waste too much time with people who never really listen. People who always say "your feedback is important" and yet by every act they deny it. I mean how many times did we players ask you to communicate better and honest? And what have you done GGS? Always try to trick players to serve your own ends. And that is just one "act" that betrays you. Don't have me go to all the others. But glad that so many people can now see more clearly. You can only deceive for so long before the truth is revealed to masses.

What I still regret is that the huge potential some talented employees are bringing to the company is only abused and misused to serve this monstrous tracherous cash cow to line up a few rich pockets. Wonder how many employees are aware that their talent is exploited to serve this "beast". I'd much rather have fun and usefull debate with them about what they do then wade through all this mud. But sadly, most of the complaints and anger is well deserved by GGS act. Yet this could have been such a fun game. Sigh ....................

Is this negative opinion of the DSF the majority?
I know that negative reviews travel faster and louder, so maybe that is what is happening?
For the record, I am still enjoying the game, and the day when I do not enjoy it anymore, I will just quit and
move on.  I don't think I would go to the forum and criticize the developers/managers, as they can run their game anyway they want. I might point out what I think are flaws, but who knows, maybe what we think are flaws, or unbalanced, are not flaws, but are thought out strategies in order to keep the game going for years!  I know I could never program or run a game like this, it must be very complicated so I'm going to give kudos to GGS. If anyone thinks they could do it better, then have at it!

Anyway, maybe the Fish Market will improve, and maybe those of us who have are large fleet b/c of the "incident", will have a bit of an advantage, compared to someone who didn't benefit from the "incident".
Or  maybe not, ..and if this makes me not enjoy the game, I will move on.

Hm, I must say i really like new fish market. It is kind of more about how to prepare boats to get from sea what is needed and when it is needed :)) It was just rutine for me till now....now I am interesed more about boats, it is fun :) And when I will upgrade ma market I think it would also brings nice amount of dollars and gifts (that I love so much) as the normal market does.

I am surprised but I am ok with this update.  o:)o:)

Still waiting for updates that would restrict direct purchasing points of course :p

I applaud you for daring to say something good about this DSF feature or simply being honest and courteous about things.

I know I am not 'allowed' to say this either (I am just not the "following-the-howling-flock kind of person):
but I am enjoying the fishing feature too - it's much more challenging now to figure out the best way and what steps to take, so back to the existing BF system again. And I feel it to be very positive that great players are trying to calculate the best way of playing this new version, somewhere else in another thread. Great job!
And I am sure GGS listens to our (reasonable!) feedback and that this new version of DSF will indeed get some tweaking.

An honest, open and above all courteous discussion would bring us much further in convincing GGS that this new version of DSF needs some tweaking with regards to a.o. prices of equipping our vessels, increase the amount of fish per pool, giving us a better variety of fish spots (although I've got an equal variety of all of them ever since the update, so perhaps this is a bug on only some servers) and maybe even the travelling times need tweaking.
Ranting, raving, cursing, trying to influence others into silly boycotting and such, making vile jokes at the cost of others and/or GGS, name-calling, shouting, hunting down + roasting the positive posters who refuse copying the negativity/nastiness or dare to contradict you, humiliating GGS in the social media (which IMHO is the most appalling behaviour of all), etc. does not IMHO. It only complicates our moderators' tasks hugely, coz now it will be far more difficult to "separate the chaff from the grain" and pass the reasonable & wise feedback on to the developers/GGS.

I'm gonna comment on this feature as if we never had the dockyard, as you stated that you intended it to be from the beginning: the fish market to sell products from the dockyard.

  • 'BUG + REBALANCING BUGS:

    1. Send a ship achievement is broken
    2. Ship equipment should be split by 3 at least, otherwise balance is negative
    3. Ship equipment should be available to be sell not to be deleted, otherwise what is the purpose to have it as gifts in events?
    4. Why was not considered to make clams and oysters more collectable (bigger quantities) than swordfish and other high price fishes and reduce inflation?
    5. in order to rebalance why you didn't just split by 5 the some fish prices? and give players a choice between the direct selling and market?
    6. do you even consider that by killing deep sees, you are actually killing temp farms and horses and indirectly coop village?
    7. Temp farm should last 50% more time if you really expect more people to play them. At current time and price is to expensive to only be able to finish first chapter. I know you like core players but after 3/4 years you should think in a maturity model.
I was not playing for more then 12 month, just logging to keep account and see what gonna be. I enjoy again last 2 months. Now is more or less the Bakery situation from long ago when balancing got wrong.

It would be normal that Community Manager to provide some answers to some of the points, because this topic is called "Discussions of official announcement" and that means both parties should be involved or change the name to "Player monologue"
Also an official answer about what will happen with the game in 2 years when Flash is history is strongly required.

If the GGS does not listen to the demands of the player to return the DSF to the old fishing mode, he's already leading his policy of seizing as much gold as us, he has to face the consequences. Our real money brings GGS profit and rating to the market. We have to be persistent and shake their mindset that we are just the numbers they can lead on the leash as they want. If they have inadequate management and programmers with no idea, this is not our problem directly. Indirectly our problem is because we feel the consequences. I want a game that is playable and not full of bugs and errors. I'm still waiting for that moment. I'm playing for almost five years. Why did I not give up? I'm persistent. One I know. From now on, the GGS will not see real money of me. So what if GGS quit the game because it does not make a profit. The player's voice through various available apps we can put out all their games (bad reviews in the media). They would not be the first or the last to fall into a ruthless market that fights for every player, not to move them away from the game. I wrote this now. When will it be again. I do not know. Maybe he'll throw me out. GGS does not like the truth. Poorly receives criticism.

    Greetings

An honest, open and above all courteous discussion .......
I actually fully aggree with that. Many of us have been calling GGS to enter into "honest, open and curteous" discussion with players so that we can sort things out and work as partners to make this win-win situation. Reasoneable income for them, game enjoyment for most of us. Have you ever considered that what you view as not so curteous responses from players is actually a response to years of disapoitment resulting from being treated in a rude, dishonest and disrespectfull fashion by GGS? The ball is on GGS side. Many of us are more then happy to go out with praise when GGS does good. Only to be stabbed in the back by their next move. We are lacking integrity on GGS side. Sort that out, and more then surely the tone of players comments will change dramaticaly. Meanwhile, what good do you do to anybody by perverting facts? It does not help any side involved in the conflict, neither players, nor GGS staff.

    Peace

  • No problem on the Deep Sea Fishing. Am docking all my trawlers and no longer playing the Deep Sea Fishing. The cost to run the trawler versus the reward is not worth the effort. Just a money drain. What was once fun has now become a chore. I play this game to relieve stress, not to have stress added. So, I no longer play the Deep Sea Fishing, Village, Meadow, Temp farm, and I will slightly dabble in the horses. I may work on the three farms and determine my future gaming involvement. I am currently level 176. Often a top player in my co-op, I set the alarm clock during events to gain maximum harvests. No more interrupted sleeps. Working on a co-op project at the moment, after that, plan to give that responsibility over to another player as I have been in charge of selecting. Had to force myself to play yesterday and today since the new changes. It would be easy for me to walk away from the game with this new change.

  • I so agree with you! I don't feel like playing anymore, it used to be fun, and I could relax with the game, now I feel stress, just like you. To sad...

Now that I have had a chance to look at this update....here are my thoughts.

1   We should still be able to sell fish.  GGS was wrong to remove this feature.  GGS was correct that the amounts were too high.  People were making insane amounts of off the fish, and some balance had left the game.  That needed reigning in.  You could do that buy cutting the selling prices by 70 percent and letting people choose between that and the market.  In the regular market, we can sell apples there or sell them directly.  You make 25 percent more if you sell them in the market, but you have the choice.  I think that choice should be here.  There was no logical reason to remove this, simply re-balance the pricing.

2  I absolutely hate the new fishing travel times and locations.  It had taken a long time to learn the previous set-up, and changing that was totally unnecessary.  There was absolutely no reason for that.

3   The prices of the crew and tackle need to be greatly reduced, given the market's prices.

4   Also, the various perks such as karma and rakes, etc., should not cut into the pricing so deeply.  For example a market order might let me sell 200 fish for 3 million, and then another market order might let me sell the same 200 fish and get a rake plus 500,000.  In these circumstances, you are way underwater.

5   Lastly, I had quit doing the temp (island,Viking,Candy) farms, because it sucked too many farm dollars away.  The fishing allowed me to start doing them again.  I am considering not doing the temp farms anymore.  You should not put me in the position of not wanting to play the temp farms, because it cripples my main farm.  This is ridiculous.  The fishing had solved that.  If, as I noted above, you had cut the prices by 70 percent, and left the fishing areas and travel times alone, there would have been enough extra income to do the temp farms and some moderate growth.  In short, GGS went too far.  If they truly seek balance, they will find a middle ground between what used to be and what they have done.
    I agree with this.

In Big Farm, the contracts that give extra rewards such as horseshoes and karma points take a lot of value away which makes selling directly better.  Fish market contracts always contain extra rewards that take more than 75% of the value away. Events already give enough of these rewards.   It sometimes give so little or even no money which makes equipment costs become more than the money reward.  All regular contracts start with 0% increase in value which is equal to selling the items.  The highest increase in value is 25%.  In most of the contracts, the feed crops, shop, bakery, Mermaid Bay ingredients and extra rewards cancel out the percent increase and still makes the further processing and selling more profitable.

According to many other farming games with orders, orders that give extra prizes should not affect the base value of products used, orders give around 25% more money or higher regardless of how many orders have been filled.

  • I so agree with you! I don't feel like playing anymore, it used to be fun, and I could relax with the game, now I feel stress, just like you. To sad...
The organic market needed to be reworked in the beginning
they could implement things to keep the game fun
the apartments could be made available to all players
example trade 3 houses for one...with extra costs
architect available on all farms to upgrade a building
    on each farm...no penalty
super cow barns and pigsties as land gets used up fast
I actually spent more money to upgrade docks
and used more gold for other things on my farms...the game became more fun
hopefully they find a way to keep all players happy

Just caught up on the last few pages.  Still loads of anger.   TO the readers here, let me share a story about the first time I experienced such anger over a site.  And this is just the first of SEVERAL times this exact sort of thing has happened.

I won't mention any sites by name.  But this one involved uploading artwork and they printed it on T-shirts and assorted other things.  We artists set our own mark up over their base charge which was already high so marking anything up much was tricky.
Now… some designs aren't worth as much as others.
For example, a simple line of text in one color takes literally minutes to generate vs a high end piece of digital artwork that may take days or longer to pull together.  That is certainly worth more than some text. And shoppers would pay for a unique design if they  loved it enough.

This site also charged monthly rent just to have a shop in their market place.  Free shops were possible but very limited in how many designs one could even have and none were IN the searchable market at all.
Well out of the blue one day, this company announced the mark up will now be capped at 10%.
No rent decrease though, just in some cases HUGE cuts in peoples profit margin.
They set up a forum thread specifically for complaints which would only be live for one year.
And let me tell you, this thread here had NOTHING on the complaining going on over there.
I was actually starting to earn regular income doing this and now my profits would be slashed upwards of 50%?  Some people had built up HUGE shops and quit their regular jobs doing this full time. I can't imagine the anger there boy.
Ha… designs being uploaded from so many angry customers included a whole lot of flipping birds followed by that company name if you know what I mean.

Then the forum police started.  Even though the thread was specifically set up for the complaints they obviously knew they would get, and only readable buy registered sellers not the general public, oh boy.  ANYONE who DARED complain too much, or too often, let alone DARE to mention any competing site OR how "legal action" should be taken etc etc… without warning or notice were banned from the forums.  Which only served to anger the already angry hoards more.

This particular site was the first of it's kind but by the time they pulled this bone headed move, others had sprung up.

I picked the best one available at the time and quickly learned a LOT of people off the site I left also migrated there too.  They even set up a forum section for those moving in from……

Now, rumor has it, that this first site was trying to clear out server space.   I don't know how much truth is in that, but if it was true, what a stupid plan huh?  Send the best artists running to some other venue where they can make the markup they deserve?  Leaving behind only those with simple enough designs to not care if they only make the 10%?  Clearly the owners never factored in the internet and how all the angry people could post reviews everywhere warning designers and shoppers alike to avoid that site and giving it the worst possible reviews.

But… years later now, the site is still in business.

Folks this site is just a game.  I have to laugh when I hear how many millions were invested in ships.  Not counting in the gold spenders here, just game millions.   IT'S FAKE MONEY!
If you spent gold, did you have fun?   Consider it like money spent to go to the movies.  It's over in 2 hours or less.   Was it fun?  Money is gone.

Again, this has happened over and over on assorted sites.  That this one pulls the same ill considered move does not surprise me one bit.   It also doesn't cost me one bit.  (Again, sorry for those who really did spend, I bet you won't anymore.)

Just a game.  Keep telling yourselves that.  It's no where near as bad as what happened above.
    Just a game.

All fish contracts give karma points and gifts.  Gifts can only be used on other players and cannot be used on high profit buildings such as shop, Mermaid Bay, and Oleg fishing.  The reduction in dollar value is much more than the increase in profit for the best building to put gifts on: rakes on a crop with long growing time, brushes on cowshed, and watering can and charms on cherry orchard.  Also, you cannot guarantee that someone will give a gift or know what building someone else wants a gift on.

never read such a crock in all my life

    bs from start to finish

so ive built a fleet to supply an additional 'organic market'

i loathe the original one and now i did all this crap just to nurse another one

they cant be honest about it, just make crap up as they go along and think we're that dumb we believe their lies?

This makes me mad. GGS has a huge cost on land, upgrading Lester's tree, Matilda's lab and the factories. That is what I used my deep sea money on. But I'm sure this took away from their gold revenue.

Way to ruin the game GGS. Why not lower your cost on things if you are going to take this way?

As far as making the game less rewarding - I feel the opposite. It made me want to play more and see progress.

You are quite right in your observations.  Karma points, rakes, and brushes are all worthless to me.  I'm staring at orders for cod, and have managed to collect 3 since the "adjustment" of DSF.  So, basically, the fishing thing -- which was making me love the game again -- is worthless to me now as well.

Perhaps the profitability of the fishing region was upsetting the balance of the game, but to completely curtail selling fish directly has not solved the imbalance - it's just created a new one. Given the costs of certain upgrades and land purchases, cutting off this income stream is a little like having one's Achilles tendons slashed.
There are better solutions to this than turning the fishing region into a limited version of the organic market, which I see other players have already suggested. Reduce the selling price of fish, or reduce other costs, by all means, but this 'upgrade' is just draconian.
As for people 'progressing too quickly', who decides how fast is too fast? Should we be penalized for playing enthusiastically? Seems a little facist to me.

    I have a suggestion,

Restore ability to sell fish, deep sea fishing starts with only shrimp, clams, oyster pools, better fishing pools only appear after reaching certain levels, regular and fish contracts dollar reward unaffected by extra rewards such as horseshoes and karma points, contracts never has no dollar reward, contracts start with 15% more money than sell price, up to 50% at max value.  Current update made tuna, swordfish and salmon much rarer than herring and cod, I suggest to make the sell prices of tuna, swordfish and salmon much higher than herring and cod.

  • We see that that GGS sees the the lack of balance in  deep see fishing but can't see how hard it is to upgrade the laboratory.

If GGS is worried about the balance of the game, why doesn't it decrease the price of upgrades for labs, Matilda's academy and Lester's secret stash?

Right now it is possible to earn 100 million dollars a day by deep see fishing. Each laboratory takes about 126 billion dollars to get to level 100. So for each lab it takes 126 billion/100 million = 1260 days about 3.5 years to get to level 100. So for all the 3 labs on each farm, it takes 10.5 years,  let alone Matilda's academy and Lester's secret stash.  This is in the current situation with the current prices of the deep see fish. So GGS wants to take this opportunity from us and we may need 100 years to complete  the lab :( .  So I think GGS should remove the lab item and stop making fun of us and itself.

I see everyone is disappointed when hearing about this horrible news. At least decrease the price of the lab.
    Thank you

    Well SAID!!!
  • I don't know any one happy with the change.....I think it was a HUGE MISTAKE and you should change it back...we should be able to do both just like we can with the produce.

HEY…. I just sold off a bunch of fish.   Maybe only the stuff Oleg catches????? What ever, all three farms, cleared out everything I had stashed before the chance to do so vanishes.

Go check your produce.  See if you can sell off some fish while you have the chance.

Yes, you can still sell what Oleg catches -- it's not part of Deep Sea Fishing.

Should be done by the trades description act  ' awesome prizes' a rake and a brush do not fulfill  the criteria! That will  go along way to help with the ludicrous amounts to upgrade.
I now have just pools of tuna and herring and no orders for them..chum takes too long to produce.
Come on GG get your head out of your a@&e . There are a lot of unhappy people out here.
I think "awesome prizes" should not affect dollar rewards unless they can be directly sold for dollars.  Items that can be sold such as orchard fruits, event crops(not seeds), bakery products, shop products and mermaid bay products.  If each clam sells for 3500, a contract with 10% more dollars than sell value could ask for 150 clams and give 385000 and 77 box of soaps as "awesome prizes" instead of 577500 dollars.

Ah, ok.  I got excited too fast.  Thought perhaps someone was actually listening.  Foolish me.

Ok, will keep sending empty ships then.  They get what they get.  Whatever.

Holding to my plan,  NO Gold use, and minimal amts of missions,  weak showing this CC and perhaps for many to come.   My only gold use will be to upgrade my farm if needed.  Not going to throw Gold at missions for the sake of  placements.   Those brushes and rakes are way to precious now,  they should be bronzed, and deco's should be statues to their total dominance of the game.

I never knew how much value GGS had placed on them in the past.  I think we should begin to horde those too.

    LOL.

This is way out of whack........The percentage of cod is way too high!
If swordfish and salmon are very rare, they should make swordfish and salmon sell for A LOT and make the amount of chum per fish much higher.

As angry, mad, frustrated, hurt, feelings of being deceived, lied to, ignored as a lot of us feel we all have to keep one thing in mind as much as we all feel that this is our game it truth it isn't it belongs to GGS and they are entitled to do with it as they wish. Do I feel what they did with the Deep Sea farm was right? No. Some more advanced notice and allowing those who had substantial fish inventories, like myself to sell those inventories before this diabolical started would probably minimized much of the back lash GGS is now getting. My concern is that GGS will just shut the whole game down with out notice, log off one day can't log in the next cause the game is gone. They have a history of doing just that. If they do something like that then we all lose. That being said, I me my self and I alone will not buy gold nor compete in CC or Deep Sea or extra farms or any of the other things that GGS offers just so they can increase their profit margins.

What others do is up to them, I was going to quit but by doing that GGS wins but instead I will plod along playing my three farms till I am bored then I will be done. I will leave on my terms not because GGS angers me with there stupid pig headed decisions to ruin a great game
You have a point BUT here's the thing.....people have spent real money on an in-game feature that turned out to be a scam, GGS are walking a fine line here. Someday they will cross the wrong person (if they haven't already) who might be willing to take this further.
Take it further how, exactly?  Sue them?  Let's get real here.  No laws were broken.  This isn't a democracy.  They can do what they want with their own game whenever they want.  They introduced a new element into the game.  Some people jumped in and paid gold to maximize the features and speed things up -- optional choice on the part of the players.  Optional.  They then changed everything without warning rendering many of those features useless.  Yes, the gold spenders could say they were robbed, but at no time was payment ever demanded.  Purely the players' choice.

Sure you have to use gold on some things after a certain point -- doghouse, water tower, etc -- but gold also is available for free if you are patient, so again, gold buying is optional.  Always has been.

It's their game.  They can pull the plug on it tomorrow without warning, and the way things are going, they just might be doing that very soon.  (And if they do, good luck getting any unspent gold back.)  In the meantime, you either walk away or play under their terms.  And if you buy gold, well, caveat emptor.  "You pays your money and you takes your chances."  Not fair, but there it is.
Just say NO to gold. Ronnie would be proud.

Edit: On a side note... Yea, laws were broken in the US. Wire Fraud. Would the feds get excited about it? Probably not, but technically it was against US law.  Ponzi-esque.
