Village League Challenges - how do you win?

What do you actually have to do to win?    Our village was ahead in 3 of 5 by several percent, yet we lost.
I have been looking through the forum and not found answers, and to be honest, I don't have time to do a long search.  I come here for fun, not forum research.  Can someone help me out with an answer?  Also, I will have NO idea how to find my way to where the answer will be posted (yes, I'm that much of a newb and this is my first visit AND post to the forum.   I really do get how the performance is being calculated with regards to village league performances.

Thanks in advance!

the first group to complete ALL 5 baskets wins.
  • What do you mean by complete?   Isn't it the one with the most?  The side bar shows percentages only.  I thought if we completed ahead of them percentwise, we would win.

You could be ahead of them by 98%, but you would have to fill all 5 baskets before they do.  There are lots of instances where the other team finishes 4 baskets first.  How nice for them.  Then the other team fills all five baskets and they win.

The challenging co-op gets to pick a basket of 5 products.  There's an amount of each product that must be harvested in order to complete that product.  The challenged co-op, since it didn't get to pick the basket, is given a reduced amount of each product that it needs to harvest.  (About 10% less.)   So the challenging co-op has the advantage of being able to pick what products are needed, but the challenged co-op has the advantage of not needing to produce as much to complete each product.  The percentage counters can be misleading because the actual numbers of product needed are different for the two competing co-ops.  What you want to do is click on the sidebar to go see exactly how much they need to make compared to what you need to make - not in percentages but in actual numbers of product needed.

    @Farmer Shelley (US1)

You must complete ALL 5 baskets in order to win the challenge.  Even if the other coop finishes 4 of the baskets and you manage to complete those 4 and then complete the last basket before the other coop you will win.  So it does not matter how many baskets are completed first it is who completes ALL the baskets first.

another scenario is that the other co-op changed rank thus nullifying the challenge before there was a winner.....

For example, say your co-op is #100 and you start a counter-challenge against the next highest (ranked #99).
you have no way to know if co-op #99 might have started a counter challenge of their own, trying to move up to rank #98......if they did and they won, their rank goes up to 98, and your counter-challenge goes away regardless of who was winning----
you can only challenge the co-op ONE RANK above you, so at #100 you can no longer challenge #98

Actually, it's a rule I rather like....it's helped me and my coopies out of a couple of tight contests.....  ;)

it's especially important to keep this in mind in situations where you have two challenges running simultaneously....if you want to win BOTH challenges, you must win the counter-challenge first (to preserve your rank), THEN  the other challenge (that you started).
  • @Farmer Shelley (US1) You are correct that if you stay ahead on the % and reach 100% first you will win & as momrulz has said, if one of the coops in the challenge changes rank, as a result of another challenge, before your challenge with them is completed, that challenge will disappear. However, it IS possible to know if there is another challenge going on. If you go to your coop village & look at the wagons on the hill, if the coop above you has a red flag next to it, that means they have challenged the coop above them, so if that challenge has been running for a while when you challenge them, there is always the chance that they could win that challenge & move rank, ending your challenge against them. Likewise, if you are challenged by the coop below you & they have a blue flag, it means they are also in a challenge with the coop below them.

thanks I didn't know about the flag colors, something new to learn every day :)

you have a gift for explaining things precisely, much better than I did.....

And after all this challenging and counter challenging?  The MOST I ever saw in actual prizes was maybe some seaweed, or maybe a few lowest ranking treasure boxes, and a few bags of feed.

BIG DEAL!   For all the time and teamwork involved?   It's just not worth it.

So if someone starts something, fine.  We do try to harvest what's being asked for.  But win or lose, it really doesn't matter much.
  • The only time it MIGHT be worth your while is if you are starting a new coop and have several higher level players with you.  If you challenge a lower level coop, the possibility is the coop may be an inactive one and you can uplevel easily...this happened to us once.
