Getting your horse to Lvl 100?

I'm hoping some of you old horse racers can tell me the good way to get your horse up to Level 100.   I've managed to hit Level 70 by keeping 3 horses, training 2 of them up and breeding them to keep the training speed fast, then breeding with my higher level horse.  But now at level 70 things have slowed way down.

keep your eyes on the horse market. Sometimes you can get horse that are already level 50's and then train them up. that helps a lot.

Thanks for the help, guys.  But doing it all again is how I got to 70.  And this last round seemed like I spent more time and horseshoes getting there than if I'd just kept training my one competition horse.  Unfortunately, the  only 50 horses for sale I've seen cost lots of gold.  I've got plenty of gold horseshoes, but not much of the real thing, so I'm kind of limited to buying those cheap, low level horses.  Oh well, maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet (ha-ha) and cowboy up (ha-ha-ha) and do it the slow way.

It helps to do any major training when the boosters are running.  I scale back when they aren't, and go for it when they are.

Thanks for that, Artful, I'd forgotten about weekend special editions.  I never kept track - any idea how often they occur?

We never know.  They gave us some not too long ago in compensation for something going wrong in the village.  I was able to bring my horse up 10 levels, and I'm not a gold buyer, so it really helped.  Nowhere near 100, though.

There is a 43 and a 46 horse on my HorseMarket atm and both needing no gold so they do happen.  :¬)
The Market changes over every 24 hrs so I try to check it every day if I have a stall empty, it's been a long time since I had to buy Goldys.

Great suggestions!  I'll add both of those to my bag of tricks.  Uncle John - how many horses do you keep?  And how do you work them?
  • Few basic rules:
    - each horse is wothy to train only for (aprox.) 12 levels (45 -> 57 for example) further training becomes extremly expensive
    - you must breed horses of the same level (or very close); if you breed two 57 you wil receive "child" of 57 lvl; if you breed 50 and 70 the "child" will be 60
    - new born "child" you can train for next 12 lvls for acceptable price

Result - you must work in "pyramide style" - for exmaple:
4 horses of 50 lvl train to 62 lvl; then breed - you will receive two "childern" of 62 lvl; those you can train again for 12 lvls - up to 74; then breed again and the "child" of lvl 74 you can train to 86.....
and tha same - next similar pyramide brings you second 86 horse etc.
Hard work :-) knowing what im talking about - my race horse is 144.

Thanks @mojda_micka (CZ1)   I was hoping to avoid the hard work   But what you've said matches my experience so far exactly.  What I ran into was a slow down - With earlier level horses, I could move up 3 or 4 levels with one training session - now I get 1 or 2 per session.  I haven't gotten far enough to see that I can still improve the horse by 12 levels - I was kind of assuming I wouldn't be able to.  I'm using only 3 horses for my pyramid, but reading your post, I'm thinking I could probably speed that up by adding horses and getting 2 pyramids going.  May have to give that a try.

Something I'll throw into this thread here is that I only recently discovered you could train more than one horse at a time, (putting them in different training arenas of course.)  That should speed the progress up - but I think I'll wait 'til the next Special Weekend Edition to give that one a try.

Big thanks to everyone for helping out.  I think I can consider my question answered now.

@buddy194 (US1) Apologies for the delay in replying; real life happened  :¬(
    Same basic approach as modja.
I train till the next level wil cost over 250 which averages out at about 12 levels. Gets me from 0 to 14 but my top horse only went from 92 to 103.
    Child is average of parents rounded down so parents should be same level as each other or an even number apart eg. .  57 + 57 = 57  ; 57 + 59 = 58  ;  but 57 + 58 = 57  :¬(
Each training session gives some bonus points (small green number) which are equal to the level of the training arena. So  1) Upgrade your arenas and 2) two training sessions of 20shoes each will get you much further than one session of 40shoes
I currently have 7 stalls in my stable occupied by horses of level - 92, 82, 71, 61, 50, 38 and 36. so I'm finally in a position to breed and train all the way to the top and get my first >100 horse  :¬)
(the 36 and the 50 were both bought on the HorseMarket without using gold and the 38 was bred from two 26s which were similarly bought)

    Enjoy  :¬)

Many thanks, Uncle John!  You pay MUCH better attention to the numbers than I do and I'm VERY glad to have your take on the whole process.  I didn't even know what that green number was, much less that it could be bonus points!  So I'm going to start watching those things and changing my strategies in accordance.

One nice thing is that my Lvl 70 horse gets me into the Platinum league every time, so I'm getting my gold mining license regardless.  And since it's going to be a long time before I hit the Diamond league anyway, I feel no pressure to get everything done right away.
