If you really want to roll out the village (which, honestly, I don't think should be done until you fix layout mode), you should do it in stages, just like on the test server. It's going to take us at least 2 weeks to upgrade our village to the point of being able to build the meadow/jetty (upgrades take 1 day at minimum, and I think we need a lvl 12 factory for cloth). Only implementing the basic 4 village buildings and edge crops (i.e. the things that have been tested a lot and seem to work fine) and having testing continue on the other parts until they're ready seems like a better plan to me.
1. I hope GGS is working the weekend. We all know that there are many bugs in the village on the test server.
2. Seaweed (that drops from fish) is required for certain components, so the fishing levels problem must be addressed. I checked and I have only 2 members of my coop that have reached fishing level 40 (and these are big players). So why not simply lower the level at which seaweed starts to drop. For most coops to have any at all, you would need to lower it from 61 down to probably the 30-ish range. Then, the rate at which fishing xp accumulates would be less problematic. And the village features would be usable.
This is not going to start well. Not that I don't find the Village enhancement interesting and possibly fun, but I was overwhelmed just reading about it. I have to agree with many others here, baby steps, please.
As for the Village Challenge, i'm hoping the usual suspects will zoom off to top of the hill, leaving the rest of us in peace :-)
Only 2 weeks??????????? WOW - that IMHO is only possible if all members throw in a loooooooooot of time, dollars and gold. My own experience is that building the village is a very slow process and everybody in a coop has to participate. That we could build the village at least a bit was due to the fact that GGS gave us (yep, better believe it, read: g a v e) lots of dollars and gold, and therefore we could speed up things.
In my coop members are allowed to farm their farms like they want, to decide whether they participate in something or not, we are not big gold buyers and can't play more then a few hours per day (usually less) - so the Village is prolly not our thingy.
Until last October I thought the village might be a nice "game on the side" if all members of my coop could be patient enough to accept that any progress in the village is intensely slow - so I already had my doubts. But launching ánd village, ánd league, ánd Yarnacle, ánd meadow at the same time while things have not been tested well enough - bit overwhelming / bit too soon / bit too much if you ask me.
Being forced to participate in something spending tons of your money/gold, GGS launching 4 complex features at the same time, while the BF game is busy enough without the whole village-happening and we are awaiting a 4th farm?? Layout Mode isn't fixed yet. Still trying to get used to completely changed numbers in the island events, the horse tournaments, the CC event, etc. etc. ... well ... I think I rather safe my money for the 4th farm.
This maybe something for the huge coops with over 50 players, all gold buyers and tons of millions of $ ... (?)
... but no, doesn't sound like our thingy. I think we'll leave the village idle for the time being ...
Fishing and Layout mode should be fixed before this update. Wow.
Over two years of playing BF taught me to be mostly indifferent towards whatever these people do as usually mess piles upon mess and there's been no substantial correction to it. If they kill the game, then it's their game they killed. I won't cry over it's coffin.
