GG kills galaxy

As most of us know, GoodGame runs a ton of different games.  I've been playing Galaxy for years now.  Soon after I started, back when it still had forums, it was announced they would no longer be working on or supporting the game.   So all sorts of stuff says "coming soon" but it never will.

And that's ok.  The game as it stood was still a ton of fun.

I came to know many people on there.  And not long after they stopped supporting it, people started up more than one base.  Technically against the rules, but... "not supported."  No one cared.

Since you can max out, use up all your side bar tasks, the game gets pretty boring.  Starting up all over became common.   Gees at last count I have some 14 bases across three servers.

And.... UNlike bigfarm, I have dumped money into most of my bases.

Now... I have tried to suggest to GG that they could have come back to Galaxy and fixed things so it wasn't such a dead end.   1. Set tasks to loop just like they do here.  You never run out of side bar tasks to fill.

2. The computer enemy, called the Gorax only go to a certain level.  Yet you can advance forever.  As you advance, they are worth less and less.  Making it more and more difficult to ever win the weekly challenges.   Again starting all over seems to be the only way.  They could have set the computer enemy to also advance based on your level, forever.

3. They COULD have fixed all the "coming soon" stuff and finished the job.

4. They COULD have fixed teams (here called coops, there it's alliances, same thing.)  So that money donated to the team would periodically reset.   Right now many teams who have been around long enough are maxed out.  Even an annual reset would level the field, give everyone something to do again.

5. Alliances have a space to donate cash.  BUT there is no use for it. Now that is really stupid.  They COULD have added some feature, perhaps some weapon the leaders could purchase for the team, something that costs cash, inspiring people to spend cash… and then buy more.  But no. Donating cash does nothing.

6. They could have done all that, THEN still leave the game as "unsupported" and go work on other projects.   Leave this one to generate steady income on the side and not turn into a dead end bore for the players unless they start all over.

Well finally, instead of FIXING a game that a whole lot of people have been addicted to for years now, they announced come May they will be pulling the plug.

Oh but here's a goody package to come play Empire.

PHOEY!   Empire is not at all the same.   Galaxy is a futuristic game, Empire goes back in time.  Not at all the same thing.  (Yea I know, battle is battle but still.  I like my space ships.)

And now I'm just totally disgusted with this whole company.

Do I want to move to some other game?   Sure.  But NOT with GoodGame ever again.  I don't dare post all the other game sites here or this will be shut down.  But I sure am telling my friends on Galaxy.

No, I'm not starting up on Empire or any other GG.  Not when they seem to be doing so poorly that sending hoards of customers away seems to them to be a good idea.

Anyone who has played Bigfarm for awhile knows these are games of time and patience.  It takes MONTHS to build up your farm, and it took MONTHS to advance in Galaxy.

All to be thrown into the trash now.

GoodGame you have no idea how many people you have really made unhappy with this.

And in my mind, all this tells me is your management team has their heads FIRMLY implanted far up your own behinds.

First rule in business.   NEVER THROW AWAY CUSTOMERS!

If you really haven't got enough resources to keep the game servers running, why not sell the game to a company who does?     Of course the players would move with them but so what?  Your kicking everyone off anyway.

I know I won't be starting up anything new with your company ever again.   No trust what so ever.

And now... even if you finally did install some kind of gold lock, (asked for here for years) onto BigFarm, forget it.   I wouldn't invest one red cent in this anymore.  What's the point if you can just pull the plug, no discussion, no feedback, no one cares.

So again, management over there is bad.  I feel sorry for anyone who has to work for lousy brain dead managers.  It's no wonder your company has been laying off workers.

Find someone who actually knows how to run a good business and you would be growing instead of struggling.

Wow… I knew there were layoffs awhile ago, but this article is dated 2017.  Seems they still just don't get it.

Honest people, you don't throw away the customers you have and then wonder why business is lagging. Duh.

  • Sorry that your game is closing, that always sucks when its something you enjoy.  :/  But I must admit I am surprised that you are so shocked by it. 100s of games disappear all the time, not just GGS games, all game companies do it & as soon as they stop being supported its only a matter of time before they close, because even if they leave it running for a while, eventually it becomes unplayable as OS's progress & the game is not updated to deal with the changes. GGS announced last year that all their games were closing except for BF & Empire, because they want to concentrate on developing those 2 & though I never played Galaxy, your description makes it sound like it had run its course. Nevertheless, its still sad for the players, even now I miss games that I used to play a decade ago, such is life! .... Though there are a few that I was glad to see disappear into oblivion lol

Little back story, a player signed up with a user name of "administrator" or some such thing, and somehow managed to send a PM to every player saying the game was shutting down.   This was several years ago now.  Freaked out a lot of people.
I was able to contact support (now support never answers galaxy questions, I think while I had support from here for something BF related I asked.)  And got back, directly from REAL support,
"We have no plans to shut down Galaxy any time soon."

Now granted, that was a long time ago so "any time soon" clearly expired.  And I know, nothing is forever.
It just seems SO STUPID to me… GG is downsizing all the time. Laying people off.  This is such a lost opportunity for them. Already a ton of people fully addicted to this game.  And stuff in place to donate cash but with absolutely no use for it,   how stupid is that?

My daughter is a programer and suggested that probably some intern or interns worked on this game and when they left, so did their work. She said that happens all the time.   So maybe that's what ultimately killed the game so long ago when they just stopped supporting it when it's full of "coming soon" things.

Oh well.   Yes I'm sad about it, but I'll get over it. TONS of games on line. More coming out all the time.
And besides, I really shouldn't be spending as much time on games as I do. My poor website has languished for years.   So this at least for me may be a good thing.

By the way, you really should stop "running with scissors."  You could poke your eye out.

    lol…. B)

You probably summed it there. If the languishing games did not close, the customer base for games would be spread over too many smaller unsupported ones. This way they are released to go & support other games & give them new blood. You mentioned that GGS steeered you towards Empire as an alternative, but thats not your sort of thing, if they had offered some sort of start up package deal, do you think that would have tempted you to try it out?

No.  I had age of empires on my computer years ago. Played on line for a long time too.  Then stuff advanced, old puters wont run it and we got the newer version.  New one just wasn't the same.  My daughter played that for awhile then got sick of it.   I'm just sick of it in general.  The perk to on line playing is more about the people you meet than the game.  Galaxy got boring long ago but the teaming up to stomp bullies and help each other is what kept most of us there.

As for GG's version I have heard nothing good about it from anyone who does play.  Nothing but a cash dig and too slow.   Na… I'm done with GG.  Except for my farms.  NO trust at all now.  And now even if they did put some kind of safety feature to protect our gold, it wouldn't matter.  If the game can be left at any time for any reason? NOT worth investing in.  So when big farm vanishes, no loss to me at all.  This is just a mild past time.

I've got games installed (I try not to get on sims, whole day vanishes.) And there are a few on line sites I play that aren't likely to fold anytime soon. Trying to get a few Galaxy friends to find me there.
I have more than enough stuff to keep me busy here.
