Suggestion about coop memberships

Artmaker (GB1)Artmaker (GB1) GB1 Posts: 1,495
I have posted this many times already but it keeps getting lost.   One of the three farms I play in is about to lose yet another coop leader.   Out of frustration the guy blasted a bunch of complaints about all the no show players.   Then announced he's leaving the game.    YA THINK?    I run two other coops and feel his pain.
So it's time to try again.   If you players agree with any of this please keep the thread alive.  MAYBE someone in charge will actually see it this time.

Please…. consider a few suggestions.
1.  DO NOT encourage someone to join a coop so soon into this game.  Maybe make a note saying it will be a good goal past level XXX….  further along so that person really knows they will be playing.  And give them a certain number of playing days or tasks to complete first.   Too many people sign up, fiddle around for a little while, join a coop then never show up again.  It comes up too fast.

2.   How about some actual requirements in order to join a coop first?   Sort of a probation period between applying and actually being in.
A.   must donate X amount of cash. (based on their level of course.)
B.  MUST sign up for what ever research they are working at filling.
C.  MUST CHECK IN at least once a week or the system automatically boots.   (Give leaders some option to over ride that in the case of someone asking for time away for personal reasons.)
That last one takes the dirty task of kicking someone out off the hands of the poor leader who never really wants to do that.

Lastly…. somehow, make projects, missions, research etc etc match the over all total level of everyone in said coop.
So if a coop loses a bunch of really high level players, only to pick up a bunch of level 10s, stuff doesn't become impossible to ever finish.    It kills it for everyone.  Makes the game real boring when we all know nothing can be finished so why bother?

One more thought, get rid of the automated pre written application message.   Let everyone write their own.
Language barriers would be found out right away.  Gees if you apply for a job, or to join a club, or anything you have to write your own application right?    Not click an automated button.   A note would be a clue too if the person is serious or not.

I think it's best if each coop set their own requirements for membership.  Not all coops function the same way or have the same goals.  Some coops are for socializing only.  Some are take-no-prisoners competitors.  Others are somewhere in the middle.  And every coop has their own rules about who and when to boot.

Many coops are very clear about what their requirements are and vet all applicants with that in mind.

We really don't want GGS setting rules by which all coops must adhere, do we?

No, but it would be good for a coop leader to be able to enforce the minimum level number, which I have suggested on another thread. Then time isn't wasted vetting people who can't be bothered to read basic requirements for membership. It means they simply can't apply until they meet that requirement. It also means   being able to set an open door (no vetting required) without concern with low level players filling up membership overnight.

1: Very bad idea, a coop can close their doors already so they can see who is applying to the coop before accepting. A coop leader or deputy can make their decision then, if they do not think it is a good match they just decline that person.

2: How do you figure that, applying and donating without that person being in that coop? Worst idea ever. It is the same as idea number 1, make your coop closed so the leader and deputy can decide if they want the player to join.

That is an idea i like. Get rid of those pre written messages.

I have to say that I fell that 1. is a very good idea.
Lots of players start farms, play for a few days, find that they are not enjoying it, not what they were looking for and never log on again. The level for being able to jjoin a co-op should be set high enough to avoid most of these people. I'm sure GGS have enough stats to work this out.

I think 2. is not a good idea for all the reasons @artful (US1)  suggested.

and getting rid of the pre-written message would be a major improvement
