DISCLOSE WHO FLAGS TO SHOW ABUSE - SUGGESTION

It may cut down on abuse of those who flag others with ill intentions and for no good reason if the person who flagged abuse's name was revealed... it might also reveal who is repeatedly being dishonest with the flagging button!

Just a suggestion.

Thank you.

Tbh, I don't think it would be a good idea to disclose who's doing the flagging publicly. I think that would just create conflict within the community. The CMs & Mods can see who's doing it & determine if they're abusing the flagging feature or not. You can PM Popeye & ask for the flags to be removed. :)
  • Yes, to bother the mods over people who just cause trouble is not right either.   They have enough to keep up with.

Even better, have another button that allows 3 people to disagree with the flag to undo wrongful "abuse" and "spam"  flags and save the moderator time and creates more fairness in posting in the forum.

@Thirtyplus (US1) I'm with you on this one:  If flaggers know they are flagging publicly, they might think twice.  It's no different than posting publicly.  It's the anonymity that causes the abuse.  Think of all the havoc that would ensue in this forum if posts were anonymous.

  • I don't even know what is considered spam or abuse but i know i was "flagged: and I have no idea why--I re-read my comment and found it to be within bounds of the topic with no derogatory remarks, etc... maybe a brief explanation of why a comment is flagged could be made so we know what was said was offensive or whatever....
I do think the person doing the flagging should be made known.. as artful made reference to our posts have our names so whats the difference?

Or eliminate them altogether.  Flagging and Spamming posts are to alert moderators of possible harmful material, right?  If they aren't able to review the posts and remove either the post or the flag, what is the point?
  • Very good points!  I think some people just try to destroy the reputation or character of others or just to be mischievous.  If people could see who they were, they might think twice.

There is a wise saying something like; the true test of person's character is what they would do if they knew they wouldn't be caught.

Another thought you guys sparked is perhaps people challenged them, then the person would have to respond or it be removed with no response that several others agree with.  :)

I think leave it up to the Mods/CMs to watch and try not to take it personally ;-) I have a couple of those abuse/spam flags and have no idea why but then again one can not please every one all the time ;-)

I totally agree with Data KIng am sure moderator will tell you if you have crossed a line otherwise life is too too short to worry about who flagged who  this is sounding too much like highschool.

@Data King (US1)  Interesting.    And, yet you one to say there weren't mods around to watch the forum.  And you are suggesting that people bother the mods with that as well?

No there @Thirtyplus (US1) all that I'm suggesting is to leave it up to them and not take it personally. I'm sure the "Mods" and our "CM" keep an eye on this. I'm sure they have enough things on their plate to deal with as it is and if every one started sending them requests to look into every flag that is used, they would not be able to do the rest of their job very well. I meant nothing personal ;)
