questions on missions

I just finished a corn mission and had looked just after starting to see who I was going against since one player was updating fast on their amounts....when I went to their farm they had 2 fields, neither one was planted, and they were only a level 11....so how did they come in first over several players higher than me without planting

    They may not look that they have planted any corn, but they were. They planted and then used gold to hurry production or they used seaweed.
