Horse Season Going Weird

I'm puzzled, and I'm going to be clear here, I'm not talking about the 0, -1, -2 difference between phases but about why would my win/lose ratio be so dramatically different in gold?
Evidently, I will not be going anywhere in gold phase, I've been trying for almost a week to reach 575 and it's just not working, while in the previous phases that would have taken me just a few days.
So am I missing something I don't get? Does it mean it's end of my progress and I will never be able to go any further up?

Another very weird thing I've noticed and I have yet to understand is why in heck's name is my level 12 horse needs FIVE TIME the horse shoes compared to my level 20 horse needs to level? It's AMAZING the amount of shoes I need to just try to squeeze one level out of that level 12 horse. It's gone so insane that I'm ready to give up on the quest because, as thing stands, that lower level horse will never reach level 20, ever. I cannot even imagine the HUGE amount of shoes it would need for 19-20.
And yet, my level 20 horse needs 4 clicks from 0-100% to level 1 quality. Other lower level horse, needs almost 40 clicks PER SKILL!
When I first started working on my horse's, I was confused too. I still do not know all the ends and outs of it all, but I have the jest of it. I have one horse that is level 20. He is a offspring of two other horses that are now roaming the great plains of Big Farm. I then bought another horse and leveled him up to 12 kinda quickly. I just bought a third horse and will start to level that one up to level 12. Once that happens, I will breed the two level 12 horses and then level that offspring up to level 20. Then I will breed my two level 20 horses and start the process all over again. It will take a while, but will be worth it way down the road.
Level 10 is fine yes. If you breed a 10 with your 12, the new horse will be an 11, but that will still train up to level 20 very fast.
