[Discussion] Important Changes to Our Community Communication Channels

Comments
& to top it off, All these years of My work on the Forums will also be taken away again, I am not happy about that either, As there is no place in Discord for Me to add My Holiday's & Weather pages, but I guess I am the only one who cares bout My work anyway right!,
P.S. Also not happy that I will lose My Daily Spud Badge that I recently just got as well, & the fact that We as player's won't be able to use our Awesome beautiful Banner's no more, again not happy bout that.
I am also wondering Why this page and the one before it was put on here in the Forums 2 times each?
Will this be the same communications hub they launched a few years ago? It seemed to cause more problems than it solved, and many players found it to be clunky.
Since Crazy Big Farms no longer exists, the Forum was where we could go to read archived information and stats and how-tos. It's a great resource. Will we still be able to access that information?
I agree with Blue Denim. For many reasons, Discord doesn't work for a lot of players.
Many of the FAQ's and tutorials are copied over there.
The Community Hub will also have FAQ's and Tutorials.
Which link did you use?
Discord already has announcements and discussions mirroring here.
Questions are answered there too.
Bugs can be reported there.
Suggestions can be made there.
Discord also has the social side where you CAN also just natter to BigFarmers around the world in the channel called Random if you wish.
Discord also has few games like the Male v Female here.
It also has a Music Night (CEST) on Friday.
You put requests in during the week.
The Community Hub will have the Announcements, News Bulletins and Knowledge base.
We cannot post there.
My "translation" of this new announcement is just: "We don't care about the players anyway. We don't care what they say, so we'll just take away this interaction and make it easier on ourselves. We do hope though, that they'll continue to spend money."
I'm wondering if GGS is just deliberately killing the game so they can change it over to pay-for-play only.
And what about the forum contests? Will there be contests in this "hub"?
Discord is NOT user friendly, and most of my co-op will not use it (including me).
So yes, very sad as well, but then, we don't get any say, so we'll just have to suck it up
Now does that Mean that the Forums will be staying for sure or not?
That is the real question that We players would like to know for sure I think.
And The Con's for taking away the Forums >
1. Can't Use our Banners
2. All our hard work on the Forums over the years will be gone.
3. I do not want to lose My Daily Spud Badge either.
I am sure I could think of other things, but right now My mind is too chaotic to think of anymore.
Forum contests are currently mirrored in Discord
Discord also has it's own contests
Contests will not be in the Hub only here and Discord.
This announcement reads, "This decision comes after careful consideration and reflects our commitment to creating more engaging, efficient and user-friendly communication platforms." I am sorry, but I think discord is definitely NOT more user-friendly, nor more efficient than this forum.
The 1st biggest issue is being able to access discord. How will we be able to???
I have not been able to access discord from the game for a long time now. I get the login screen, but discord doesn't recognize me that way .
By saying from the game, I mean by hitting the link next to the logout button.
There was another post recently that RosyStarling said to try the link in her signature. Thank you! That way, I can now get into discord. But what happens when Forum goes away and we can not access discord any other way?
I have heard other players complain they haven't been able to login to forum for a long time now due to some system issue with logins, but they can at least still view the announcements even if they can't comment on them. With discord being a completely different site, a different company, we can not even access to view the announcements if we can not login.
Also, we can click on the discord link from RosyStarling's signature without logging into forum.
I read back in forum to some old posts about discord for any other hints or tips, but what I found was a note saying if we have any trouble logging into discord, to contact discord support. This particular issue though, is obviously a BigFarm issue, not discord, since it only happens with that link on the farm.
The 2nd issue is being able to access other discussions when something new comes up, like I just mentioned I did for discord. As a newer player, when I have questions, I use search first and usually find that someone else had the same question before. This will not be possible in discord, since as the announcement reads, it is for real-time chat and is supposed to provide immediate interaction and support. But, that is ONLY if someone else is online. I have gone hours there without a response or seeing any other post (on the English channel). Then, I need to logoff and by the time I return the next day there has been more discussion that I can not even find my comment, much less to see if someone ever responded. Discord has been such a complete waste of time for me. Here on forum, I can usually find an immediate response a whole lot easier than I can on discord.
I even tried the counting game since it seemed more active, and there are several of them. Even on those, there was also not another post with a new number in over an hour. If no one is there, then we do not get, as you say, "immediate interaction and support".
3rd biggest issue (and last that I can think of at this moment) is all the bookmarks I have for forum where players have explained various parts of the game. The discussion and comments by multiple players IN ADDITION to the faqs and tutorials have been an invaluable resource for me. So much more is learned from reading all those past comments.
Losing this forum as part of this game, is just going to be absolutely devastating!!!
Goodness me that was long, and that's just my initial thoughts on this topic. I wonder what will come to mind once I really have time to process it.
Will we at least get a heads up, like a week or 2 notice before they shut down forum for good?
What it should really read is "we have to pay for the forum whereas Discord is free! end of!!"
:¬((
When we first started playing we were used to a certain forum then after a while that changed & us US players were separated from our international friends that we were used to interacting with so we had to fuss & fight to have the 2 forums merged back together. Now there will be more separation and confusion amongst players. I know GGS has made up their minds & could care less about what we think as usual but I still think its dumb.
Ditchcord is screamyyyyyyy, anoying, bot stuff
I hate it
After years playing silly game, my opinion is they take advantage of lonely people, take and give back nothing
Not to mention the awfull bloody rules on ditchcord
Time to ditch you i guess
@Heidi (INT1)
I will bring up again that many cannot access Discord through the game link
Many of the tips and tutorials from here are reposted there
You can search Discord for previously asked as you can here
You can bookmark post there too
It sucks. (pardon my french)
It is graphically stupid, hard to find what you're looking for, and very annoying just to look at it.
I will never understand why I.T. people feel the need to change things on a website that work perfectly.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If the forum costs, and Discord is free, (as I read in a previous post) that's something that is somewhat understandable, maybe. Although I'm sure someone is making more than enough money from people who buy gold at ridiculously high prices, to pay for the Forum.
Why didn't they just set it up exactly like the forum. Same colors, same background, same categories, in the same order, etc. ...... as in MAKE IT LOOK AND WORK EXACTLY LIKE THE FORUM.
You can just picture the Techs sitting around, bored outta their gourd, saying....."ooooh let's move this over here. Then let's change the background. The let's put this here and that there. Then we can place all of this stuff in this one section and label it "this". Oooooh we are so impressed with ourselves. Go TEAM."
Just like engineers. They design something, then never really use it on a day to day basis, so they just don't care. They just want to pat themselves on the back.
Bottom line:
The forum is very user friendly, the Discord is not.
Why don't they just turn the forum over to the players if they're too lazy/it's too expensive? Get a few tech savvy folk to take it over (I'm sure there are plenty) and regular forum users can appoint/vote for their own moderators.
Other companies have Vanilla based forums.
I guess anyone with the knowledge COULD start their own unofficial forum but any mod on that would not get announcements, or be told of down time
They could not turn to GGS for assistance, or report bugs or ask questions.
I really agree with much of what Heidi wrote, and it made me think of a question; Will this forum be completely wiped out and gone - totally inaccessible, or will we just no longer be able to login and comment? Meaning, we still be able to view this forum via bookmarks we have saved, and if so - will the search function still work?
I think artful asked the same question, but I did not see an answer;
One of the comments in the announcement said the change is to give immediate, or real-time interaction. But I don't think we can really get a faster response on discord than we can here as both are reliable on another player or mod happening to be there at the moment the question is asked. The only difference for speed is there are less players on forum because the login issue has never been resolved (before that login issue, questions were answered fairly quick, and sometimes still are). But the other issue with questions is that we get better responses on forum. In discord, we might only get a response by a player who happens to be there at that moment, but here on forum if we check back after a few hrs, we get more perspective from other players as they see the question too. The other benefit to forum is when multiple players have the same question, we can all comment together which saves a lot of time for both the players, and those who are answering the question.
This last line sums it up nicely, although I would also ditto mostly all of what Mathias (US1) said:
Another thing I would like to add is that many players have worked together for years to gather information to create very useful content for other players, especially newer players. Some of the things we struggled with & had to learn the hard way, we tried to make it easier for others. Will that information just go away or will it be on this "Community Hub" that is read only so that they can't ask any questions that they may have? I know GGS went through some major changes several years ago & I'm not sure if any of the same people are still there but the original crew knew (and I feel like they respected) that we built a strong community through the EN forum. Now I feel like it's being thrown away as if it never meant anything.
I will end my post with saying that I have 2 teenage boys that use Discord & their only real use for it is when they're actively playing games & communicating with their friends through voice chat. That is the only real time activity Discord has over the forum. On the EN forum, we are from different countries & different time zones. We can't all be online at the same time. FYI, I'm in the US & GGS is 6 hours ahead of me so how could I have any real time reaction while I'm sleeping?
This same basic question has been asked 5 times now, but no response yet. All we have gotten is from Rosy that many of the tips and tutorials from here are reposted in Discord.
I went to look. Some are, but there are very few there compared to the extensive knowledge that is here - and several of what's in discord, is just a link that brings us here to the forum. So, even those won't do us much good if this forum goes completely away.
So, yet again I will ask if we will still be able to view this forum, even without logging in, or will it be completely wiped away/vanish?
And - do we have a time frame yet on any of that?
As it happens the 2 showing are mine for the updates but anyone can, and should post there.
For us English speakers we have an advantage because ALL mods have good English and you may well be answered by one of the others and not me or BugsBunny.
If you have any more tutorials or tips you want copied over you can copy them to hints and tutorials
Nuke has already put his dockyard calculator there.
The forum will go into read only mode in early 2024 and then shutdown in April 2024
As soon as there is more information I will post it.
